Here's my favorite John Sykes Riff! Recored with the direct out 4x12 sim' and a straight mike sim'. With the MM Feline Pimped Charvel! Koch Powertone II Ultra Gain on 7. Bass and Mid right up treble backed off to 8 with presance on 8, mid shift +/- on minus.

Is this near to John Sykes Tone :?:  It sounds a hell of a lot better from the 4x12 cab. In fact it's FFFing incredible!!

It's quite a hard riff to get right but i think It's getting there. I could do with some drums but I'm getting a horrible echo in Cubase and I can't for the life of me suss out how to rectifiy it. I went in their forum but their server's too slow. So I just tried to wing it listening to how it goes in my head and recorded it in a wav file recorder.

How do you think that compares to the miked cab clip i put up a few days ago?

Absolutely KILLER    That sounds amazing, and played very well :!: That's as good, or better than any other direct out, and that's an MP3 file! Thanks for demo :D

I might have an anwer for the echo problem. When playing the track mute that channel. The same thing happens with Pro Tools LE. If you don't mute the channel you're recording on, you hear the input, and the output with a slight latency. So you get that echo thing happening. Hope that helps.

Ahh....thanks bird :!:  :D

Thanks Bird! I'm glad you think it's ok with the direct out. I've got so used to the cab it kind of spoils you with it's tone!

I messed up the easiest part of that clip! There's cheeky harmonics popping out (Miracle Man HB spew them out by the truck load  ) You have to adapt your technique, which is cool! Plus the timing goes out in on that bit too.

I tried that tip about muting the channel but it's not having none of it! Do you think it might be the mixer interface Bird? You can assign inputs and outputs on there. It was ok when i got it. I've re-installed it 4 times in a month but no joy. It's frustrating cos I've made a load of beats in Acid to use. All this kit and i can't record the way it's designed to :x I seem to spend more time trying to sort that part out than using it the way it's supposed to be used and it vexes' your creative karma man!  Could it be a windows setting? I've got XP Pro.

Great clip..........if you're interested John Sykes has several solo offerings out.I just got Nuclear Cowboy, and it's really really good.Lots of classic Sykes solos and quite contemporary songs............kinda where Lizzy might have been now had they still been going.

His latest offering 'Bad Boy Live' is a belter although I prefer the Blue Murder Live in Japan Dedicated To Phil Lynott.
His tone these days with Lizzy is fantastic, just his Les Paul and two modded Marshall  heads, no pedals no rack !!

Sounds good to me! It's amazing what a guitar with really top draw handmade pickups and a proper amplifier can do! I love it!! I'll get on Amazon and buy these Sykes discs. I got the 1st Blue Murder album when it came out years ago. His playing and tone are perfect, the man is so cool. Why David Coverdale sacked him from Whitesnake is a complete mystery to me! He must need his head tested. Cos' like Steve Vai fitted that type of Rock Band format so much better :?:    Ego's eh! Who needs them?!

I spent the whole day Sunday with my new gear and sometimes it can put a lump in my throat it really sounds that good!! :D  :D  8)

Its a pity my son is no longer living at home Johnny cos I'd send him around to sort out your PC but the ungrateful sod buggered off to live in the USA. He is a bit difficult to pin down these days. Your clip sounded fine to me though. You are inspiring me to do something with my Apaches.

Thanks mate! Those Apaches sound lovely! What do you fancy playing? What sort of songs do you and your band play?

I did have a computer wizard here on Saturday to sort my Wi-Fi out, which he did just fine. He is one of my old Despatch Rider mates :)  Then he Skinned up and the rest of the day was spent giggling and the Cu-base bit didn't get done! Good day, but you can't get too much done if its technical. Creative stuff can roll along in that enviroment but hard tech stuff? Naah! :?  There's another wizz-kid I know who is younger and less corrupted, who should be coming here soon to sell me a copy of a certain program  I think I'll offer him some cash to sort it out as he is really clued up on this shite!

My band ( 2 guitars, bass and drums) is playing stuff from 60's ( Kinks, Stones, Cream, Beatles ) to present ( Eels, Green Day). None of us are widdlers but we get by. We have only been together a few months and have done a few gigs. We have the banter going already. I use my 1970's Strat and Tele ( soon to be BKP'd hopefully) as a spare.
If I can get time to do a clip I might do something of my own just so's no-one can criticise my playing. I have a multitrack machine -I dont have MP3 conversion software at the mo and I am working 6 days a week so time is tight but  but those Apaches are so bloody good- they deserve a good hearing.

I love all that old stuff and the newer stuff you mention. That sounds like a nice band. It helps to have some good banter, it can really break down barriers. I've been to jams with some proper tossers in the past and it's not worth getting involved with them unless they are mega talented (they wasn't!) At the end of the day it's all about having fun, nice one!
:band5:

Time! Ben TO is currently inventing the 38 hour day and will let me know as soon has he has sussed it fully! Me too mate 6 days (except Monday this week  PDT_029 illing!) It's a right bummer. I used to get up at 4 in the morning to practise on my guitar trainer for 2 hours before work, until i could take no more! It did help get things better (a bit)

Don't worry about critisism! It's your thing, so do it for yourself!

Thanks Andy :!:

Well if your ever planning a trip to London, then your more and welcome to visit and play with my Koch AMPLIFIER   Just PM me and you can have a go no worrys! I had my heart set on lots of amps over the years but when i heard them i thought, it's not as good as the bumpf claimed or the 3 channels didn't sound they way their adverts  said they would. It's all about £££ & $$$ to them. Use your ear. Koch do some wicked combos too and you can run 4 x 12 cabs off them. Engl do some good stuff too. You have a Ashdown don't you? Is that not much kop?   How about becoming a E-bay wheeler dealer? You could raise some cash that way and get say 25% on the drip
