Jackson + Warpig 'n Painkilla?
« on: November 05, 2007, 08:44:33 PM »
Hi,

I've got an EMG 81-sa-sa set @ 18volts in my jackson DK2, but  i think it's now time for a lil change...  current tone is alright, but i wish it was better.

With my band we play something that'd be close to progressive extreme death metal... it's fast, we got odd chords and melodies, so I need something very arcticulate yet poweful.

I,ve got a friend who put a duncan custom 5 in his ibanez "S" and it sounds really cool for leads even if its supposed to be a bridge pup *evilgrin* (btw, im not a big fan of ibanez)

I Was thinking about the warpig as bridge and painkilla as neck  (i have yet to route the body, since its a sc-sc-hun setup)  Would this be good idea???

I browsed some clips, but when it's thru a POD it kindas ruins the whole thing IMO

Btw, I have a peavy JSX head, ultra channel for rythm, and moded boss MT2  (just to add more bite) + crunch channel for lead playing... (lead tone is wayy better on the ultra, but then I'd have a shitety rythm tone)

Thanks !!

why not painkiller on bridge and warpig on neck?
a friend of mine has this set, but in mahogany
he had a warpig on the bridge before, but it lacked some edge

i filmed him playing with the pk through my amp (no boost):

the camera doesn't help, but whatever...
i bet the jsx would sound close (i have a peavey rockmaster preamp too)

hehe, nice clip.

Now i'm thinkin' nailbomb as neck...

But then, I thought if i go warpig/pk i could swamp 'em

but ceramic 8 for bridge (sounds tighter ?) and alnico V for neck?

I'd say painkiller bridge, cold sweat neck.

The painkiller is very articulate. Its its mids. It separates notes in chords very well.

The CS does a very similar job in the neck, while being the benchmark neck shredders pickup.

If you want more power though, a C-Pig in the bridge would be superb. I only recommend the PK above it because its hard for me to say exactly how good it is for articulation: it gives me the most articulate sound I have, but its in a guitar that was designed to be articulate from the ground up, so I cant eliminate that variable. And you cant have my guitar!

@opprobrium_9,
ROFL !!

@MDV,
Yeah, i want more power ;p  but the neck wasnt meant to be as "tight" as the bridge one... I wasn't very clear :p

i opted for a ceramic warpig bridge, and nailbomb as neck \m/

I,ll post clips as soon as i get 'em
