Metal (slightly Doomy) Nailbomb clips...
« on: November 20, 2007, 02:57:31 PM »
Ok, so I'm just starting to be able to play again after a three month forced hiatus (arthritis) and have come up with a cheery little ditty, be gentle with me...

http://www.twisted-transistor.com/SongIdea19-11-07.mp3

I've been listening to loads of doom lately so there's a nice little outro inspired by that kind of stuff.

It's a total old-school recording too... SM57 and Shure Prologue (cheap SM58) mixed for the fattest sound into my ancient Tascam 424 cassette 4-track.

Some reverb mixed in later via my Line6 Verbzilla.

Amp is my '76 Superbass on 2'ish with a mkI Guv'nor into the front end.

Not much structure to the 'song' yet, just jammed it out to capture the idea for later reworking/fleshing out.

Thanks for the kind words.  I was just messing round, getting back to playing properly and come up with the riff and thought it was cool enough to keep for a later date.

Ran through it a few times before putting it down on tape then played along to the track that's panned hard left to get a second guitar idea - it's all chugging on the low string really to backup the main riff.

The etherial feedback stuff on the right channel is overdubs that I've mixed in low for atmosphere - was thinking of that Down/COC type of vibe.

Glad it gets the thumbs up so far - I've been messing round with 'metal' type ideas for the past couple of years and haven't come up with anything that nails what I'm hearing in my head, until now.  This is the music I want to play - needs properly arranging plus drums and bass, but the general idea is there.

Still a bit awkward playing as the fingers on my left hand are still a bit stiff with arthritis, especially the 1st finger which I can only bend 90degrees.

That's a really good tone!  I was just itching to hear pinch harmonics though!
