"Bacchus" guitars?
« on: December 04, 2007, 10:29:23 PM »
Short and sweet:

Anyone know anything about them?

I've been looking into various Japanese brands recently and these seem to be quite a well-respected name. Anyone ever tried one? Les Paul model ideally.

Another helpful thing would be what sort of price they should go for. Particularly the "Live Road" Les Paul series.

Cheers if anyone has any info!

Sam.

They're a high-end ESP brand I think?  Used to be independent and then bought by ESP.  They're a step up from an Edwards I belileve.

What you been looking at Sambo?

I don't think so :/ I reckon you might be getting confused with Navigator

i found this:
Quote

Bacchus Guitars and Basses were founded by a company named “Headway,” that started making acoustic
guitars back in 1977. By 1981, they decided to join the ranks of Japanese electric guitar makers, and build
lawsuit Stratocasters, to start. In 1991, Headway started “Deviser,” their division of unique and very high-end
original-series electric guitars. Their motto was “devising the future,” hence their name “Deviser.”
Deviser made a lot of their own original pickups and electronics, a technique that other Japanese companies
usually didn’t do. So most Bacchus/Deviser/Headway guitars and basses are fully-equipped with original parts,
which I think is really cool. They make ALL of their own stuff, and believe me, their pickups sound amazing. The
Fender replica single-coils really capture the Fender tone and the Gibson replica PAF’s sound like PAF’s!  Some
special models come stock with Lindy Fralin pickups, or sometimes the basses come with Bartolini pickups stock.
The woods Bacchus uses are extremely expensive and rare woods. The grain on the wood they use is amazing
on every model. They bookmatch woods that aren’t one piece, and use high-quality nitrocellulose for the finishes
on most mid-range to high-end models.
Bacchus makes a “Universe” series that really captures the idea of extraordinary Bacchus guitars without the
high price. They are really popular for their tone and playability, too.
Of all Japanese companies making bass guitars, Bacchus is by far the best. They make the most amazing
basses I’ve ever seen or heard. I have one and it gets lots of offers and compliments wherever I take it.
For more information about Bacchus guitars and basses, visit their website HERE.

I don't know much about them, but I've studied pictures of them and they look very well made.  They do some unusual stuff rather than just the usual "copies".  Almost like a high-end custom-shop - I saw a nice hollow-body LP which even had the luthier's name on a little metal plate.

I haven't heard about the ESP connection.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Indy- yeah I found that too.

As for the ESP connection I don't have a clue!

And Philly that's exactly what I was thinking. From all the pictures I've seen and the very little info I've managed to find, they seem to be really VERY good.

DAVE, been looking at all the usual MIJ LP suspects. Having already got a Burny I was looking to try something different. Probably around Christmas/January time when I've got some cash. Few hundred/perhaps slightly in excess of £500.

Here's one of the Bacchus' I found:

I asked Philly the same thing, but if you were going to get an LP of some kind tomorrow... what would you go for and why?

Cheers guys,

sam.

Looking at the construction details there - the fretting, inlays, pickup routing, nut, shape of the neck heel - that's very similar to an Edwards LP.  Japanese workmanship is extremely consistent!  :)

The difference may be that Bacchus guitars use premium timbers, I just don't know.

Yeah apparently the timber quality is one of their plus points according to a couple of sites I've found.

Hmmmm maybe worth a punt!?

Sorry - I got the ESP connection wrong.  I was thinking of Navigator.

The woods look good on that Bacchus, but it's a bit plain looking and fairly pricey by the time you ship it and pay taxes.

I'd try and hunt down a Signature Les Paul.  Made in Japan to top specs and relatively unknown so the prices are cheap.  I know of three plain tops that have sold recently and the prices were:

£340 with case and Classic '57 pickups
£370 with case and Gibson USA pickups
£400 with case and humbucker sized P-90s

I know of a quilt top for sale in a shop at £449 without a case that seems nice if you like the wood (I'm not keen on quilts on an LP).

And there's my COMPLETE robbery of a flame top for £375 with case and PAF-style pickups  ;)

That flame-top is very nice indeed. And that's coming from a hater of all things flame .

Quilt tops.... those two words together bring me dangerously close to vomiting...

Have you got a website link? Maybe it's not as bad as I'm picturing in my head!  :)

If you see any more come up shoot a PM my way A.S.A.P!

cheers,

sam.

They do look great indeed.

Especially the satin cherry-finish ones (if you can find one).

I'm into the boring finishes you see, hence why I like the Bacchus, which as Dave said, is extremely plain.

There was a cherry one on guiatarbitz.com the other day.  Looks like it's sold though  :(
