Yeah, Nik's chassis will be spot on.  You can then punch the extra hole for the second tranny, or ask him to do it for you?

At $60.00 for the chassis you can't argue - worth a shot.

I'll be getting the trannies from Brian Wallace at Marstran - he's been knocking up some dual OT JTM45/100s himself by all accounts.

His PT has a two taps, one to get a B+ around 560v and another for 490v.  As he rightly points out, modern KT66s will be running for their lives with 560v.

You never know, I might even be able to get one of those swanky PT's Drake wound for the Marshall JTM45/100s.  You never know unless you ask, might just get someone new that doesn't know they're not supposed to sell those except for repairs (lmao).

Unlucky Sambo!  Strangely, I understand him  ;)

HTH - you sure you don't want to try and build a vintage correct US spec JTM45/100 with the incorrect power transformer?  The had over 600v on the plates I think   :o

I reckon you might get some of those Drakes if you're clever  ;)

Haha. You amp freaks you!!!

Purely out of curiosity- is building your own significantly cheaper as to make it actually worthwhile?

Do you need a LOT of knowledge of amps?

Put it this way Sam.  I've re-wired guitars more often than I can remember, plus I know a reasonable amount about amps, and I wouldn't build myself one.  I could wire it all up to the correct spec I reckon, but de-bugging issues I'd be lost.  Oh, and I'd probably fry myself

It's a worthwhile thing to do if you know electrics really well and are 'qualified' to a certain extent.  To the average DIY Joe it's a bit of a no-go.

If I'm a jammy git and manage to sneak one from under Drake's noses then I'll see how high the B+ is and how the amp fares.  If the valves are screaming for mercy I can always sell it and probably make a profit on it due to the rarity factor.

I actually make a profit when I sold the HW-series Dagnall OT I bought from Marshall.  The ebay guy paid me more than I paid Marshall (stupido).
