Most people can't. But then again most screamo is GOD-AWFUL!!!!

I hated Gallows viciously when I first heard them, but there is a lot LOT more to the GOOD examples than just a guy screaming.

Gallows and Ghost of a Thousand have fantastic musicians, and the song writing is actually creative and GOOD.

It might seem laughable to most people to even compare them to a band like Zeppelin, but as a long-time Zeppelin fan, these guys really are the only modern equivalent that have blown me away to the same degree.

I know what you mean.

Give it time. You will learn to love them.  :)  Just be open-minded and listen to it without the preconception that "this is screamo and screamo is terrible".

Wolfmother is probably the closest thing I've heard to Led Zeppelin.

I don't do screaming metal.....I don't do metal these days.  I had Kerrang on last night (MTV) and Slipknot came on........what the hell does anyone see in this lot?

I think the difference is that Led Zeppelin could sell out huge stadiums all over the world on huge tours.  If any of these 'Screamo' bands end up doing that and becoming mainstream then I'll take it all back, but I really can't see them being anything else other than niche music.

Now I'll have the flameproof gear thanks!! :D

I'm so very old that, although I've heard of screamo, I don't actually have any idea what it is.  Emo with screaming, I suppose?  Or just heavier emo?  :?

But then I was never quite clear what emo is.  I know Sunny Day Real Estate used to be called emo, and I like them.  Now it seems to be bandied about as an insult.

Well emo used to mean Emotional hardcore, and Sunny Day Real Estate were one of the forerunners. Basically anything hardcore-ish with emotional lyrics (as opposed to political or social issues) was deemed emo.

Now its banded around to any pop-punk band that sing about the girl that hurt them. Makes me sick...

My view on the whole thing is I'd not want to listen to music that isn't Emo. As music without emotion is essentially shallow. Like the Mars Volta once said when they were asked how does it feel to be a prog band, they'd hate to play music that wasn't a progression.

Anyway. I like Led Zeppelin. III is my favourite album. Not a popular one, but I loves it.

:D We`ve had these discussions for a while on the boards about all the genres & sub genres that Metal in particular seems to be poisoned with. If you want examples of bands that play without actually saying anything constructive then bands like slipknot & there ilk are prime examples. LZ great achievement was that no matter how loud they were or how intense there music got there was always a point to it, even if you didn`t like it. That's why they were able to write the wide variety of material they composed. Check out Physical Graffiti it has a wide selection of songs covering most if not all types of Rock/Metal/Country/Folk etc. This is why they were able to compose material that included songs such as Stairway To Heaven or my personal fav, The Rain Song just to mention 2 songs off of the top of my head. Again as Nuno said if they do tour dont knock `em go hell bent for leather to get a ticket & at least you can always say you saw them because believe me there will be a F**k load of us that`ll move heaven & earth to get our hands on tickets. Dont get left behind with regrets of not seeing `em !
