Pickups for Les Paul Studio

I'm only a year into this guitar game so bear with me :) I am certain I want a pair of these Bare Knuckles the problem is deciding on one. I've been considering the Black Dogs, VHII, Cold Sweats, and have been checking out some of the hotter stuff as well. What I really want to find is something that sounds modern and hard but still has that bluesy sort of feel to them. I think Jack White of the White Stripes is a master of this sound. If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated thanks!

I'm sure the lads will jump in with plenty of feedback, so I'll leave it to the pros.

(By the way, people seem to use the Warpig for jazzy stuff besides the obvious applications for it. So if you want "modern and hard" and still get some mellower stuff, maybe that'd be right up your alley...)

I like Jack White, or at least I like his music, I believe the guy is a total ass, but I like what he does. And I'll interested to see what people say about the pups too.

Although not a great White Stripes fan (I prefer the Raconteurs CD) I would say something with a lot of upper mids (as my memory of his tone is a little dying ostrich for my tastes).

However I would suggest Tim, (or perhaps TO or Hunter) may have some ideas as a LP of any type isn't really close to Mr Jacks Airline

Ermmm, as regards Jack White, from the 2nd hand accounts I have both him (& Meg) are apparently very nice (if somewhat single minded) people, as a very good mate of mine played on a couple of tracks of the Elephant album.

Ofcourse success (and money) may have changed him, and perhaps not for the better.  However their music makes me smile (and sometimes shake m head in confusion) but in a world like this thats a good thing

Those airlines where made out of something strange- fibreglass I think.
And I'm sure I read somewhere that the "humbuckers" in them were in fact single coils, but in a humbucker size casing.

And IMO, The white stripes are one of the best bands around at the moment, although certainly the singing isn't to all tastes. Check out seasick steve if you love the music but can't stand the voice.

Defo a question for Tim.

I have no idea, although having said that I got a good Jack White tone using my P-90's.

Bear in mind he uses Big Muffs and other assorted fuzz pedals.

Alot of this sort of tone comes from the music style and the way it is played as much as it comes from the guitar.I would say you need an Alnico powered pickup and one that's not too hot so you retain that bright upper mid cut.The Black Dog is good at this so too is the Riff Raff.

I was thinking of going with the Black Dog in the neck and maybe something a bit hotter in the bridge. What do you guys think might go well with it?

I'm loving the Emerald bridge pup I have right now.

I also like the sound of the Rebel Yell bridge.

Both will give you a nice 'hot' sound.
