I have watched a GH III thing on youtube of bark at the moon, and to be honest I couldn't do it. I would want to play the real song, not the song on the choice of about 5 buttons, where an E chord isn't always in the same place...

Although cr@p Guitar Hero style games (not due to my guitar playing abilitys though) I thought I would post this link

http://www.xyhd.tv/2007/10/how-to/tips-and-tricks-to-build-a-real-guitar-controller-just-in-time-for-guitar-hero-3/

I particularly like the way he decides to remove the frets from the guitar, not only should he not be allowed to build anything he shouldn't be allowed to own decent tools either.

I would however love to see waht Jonathan or Wez would build :)

I actually got guitar hero III  on the wii this xmas and i quite like it.  Ok, its not helping me learn guitar any better but i think my rhythm is improving slightly.... and its only a game at the end of the day, its important not to take it to seriously!!

i have considered doing something with the controller - but probably not a conversion to a proper guitar - thats really just a waste of wood.  I do have some left over red tolex that might make a nice faceplate.

Guitar Hero 3 is the devil ;)

I'll refrain from any social commentary and say that the game is a lot of fun if you like playing Simon, and not necessarily playing guitar.

Rock Band takes the idea to the next level, however, by introducing true co-op play based on the same platform. Thus, it is the devil squared. :)

my girlfriend is better than me at guitar hero!!!

it's not right! I can play 16th notes at 200+bpm and get crowds of people watching me in guitar shops

I am getting better though, but so is she... even if I play the same amount of notes she'll beat me with more points from longer note streaks

only time I got a chance is when it's too fast for her down pick only technique and she never does hammer ons and pulls off either, I think I've found a better way to alt pick though so hopefully I'll not $%&# up so much now

ps I learnt the dragonforce intro riff on expert!!! (on slowest!! :P )

a dude on the jackson forum is making a real guitar controller too. from a spare warlock body and a shitety neck (but i think, having roughly 120 guitars that cost 50$ on average, he can spare one)

I also suck ass at GH. My mate however is amazing at it, but he seems to think it has some credit as an actual musical talent. So to piss him off, I go and learn whaetever I suck at on GH, on my realy guitars.

Suffice to say Im quite a big fan as the rest of my band is. Good fun when drinking and general messing about....I have completed it on Expert on the last two games. I think to some extent timing and dexterity taken from guitar playing can be put across to the game.

I don't practice the songs, or try to learn anything. I just play. I can obviously see why people dont like it.

I'd have to disagree with the article on top.
While i'm not crazy at guitar or anything, I can pull off maybe 16th at 150ish.
But I did beat just about every song in GH1 on expert mode in like 3 days while everyone else at the office struggled with WE WILL ROCK YOU on medium.
So knowing how to play guitar does help...

or
maybe i'm just a massive nerd? lol

could be worse, I spend 2 hours getting that dragonforce expert intro set into muscle memory on slowest, I can't even complete medium, last time I got really close
