pickup choice for Eggle Berlin hardtail 24

Hi! I'm new to all this so please bare with me.I have  an Eggle Berlin HT24 1994 build, mahogny body and neck with a maple cap/ ebony fingerboard, I wish to change from the SDs  I would like a little more power, but not at the expense of tone, I guess the sound I'm chasing is a  good LP tone  just tightened up a bit! I use a Marshall TSL602 with no effects. From what I have been reading I guess I'm thinking "Crawlers" or "Mules" HELP!!

Hi, I have AIV Mules on my PRS Artist, which is a similar construction to your Eggle, but with a rosewood fingerboard.  They give a great sound, very classic Les Paul.  If you want a little more bottom end push (since the guitar doesn't have as much wood as a Les Paul), then the VHII's work really well too (I had a set in the PRS before changing to Mules, I wanted the VHII's for another guitar!).
So many pickups, so little time

Hi,

Froglord has a Berlin with mules in, though I'm not sure if it's a 22 or 24, so it may be worth having a word with him.

I think your 24 may be a bit less bright than my 22 as I'm considering either Mules or Crawlers (probably the latter to give a little more balanced tone as I believe the maple neck is making my guitar a little over bright for my tastes)

Rob...

I think Blue has a Berlin, I'd suggest heading to the search function and dearching for Berlin (or Eggle)
Goodbye London !

indeed i do, but mine's a standard 24, so all mahogany, no maple cap.  i've got a set of Warpigs in it, which sound magnificent!  i have considered changing them for Riff Raffs though, for a more vintage SG kind of sound.

in my experience, maple top Berlins are fairly bright sounding guitars, there's nearly as much maple as mahogany in the body and it has an ebony fretboard.  it's unlikely to ever sound just like a Les Paul, but to that end i'd avoid the brighter pickups.  i'd say something with a little more output will suit the guitar better and get closer to the fuller sound you're after.
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!

Mine's a 24 fret Berlin mahogany/maple/ebony and I've blocked the trem, so it's almost exactly the same spec as yours, kevinr.

The Mules replaced a set of Kent Armstrongs (they were using these prior to the SDs) and really gave the guitar a new lease of life. However, since you want more power I'd be tempted to go for the Crawlers. When I asked Tim what to get he said the Crawlers were like a Mule but with more poke, and given that the Berlin is bright and doesn't have the girth of a Les Paul, I think the Crawlers would fit well.

Good luck in your tone quest!
