New SG (slightly disappointed)
« on: January 11, 2008, 04:35:00 PM »
Got a Gibson SG-1 from ebay.

However, slightly disappointed as it's pretty battered, action is way high and pickup sucks haha, though those last two can be fixed, most of the battered-ness of it can't. The neck has chips all over it and there are chips over the body. But the part i can't stand is these scratches/lines where he has obviously been picking. I'm wondering if there is anyway it can be fixed?

I'd say try meguiars scratch-x to get rid of that scratching. Supposed to be pretty good at ironing em out.
Give it a bit of a set-up and I bet you'll be a lot happier. As far as being battered is concerned - it's an SG. the battered the better!

Was that how it was described? With scratches and dents etc? If not maybe you should return it for a refund. If you paid by paypal you could make a claim through ebay.

I have a very bad SG gas. Tokai one seems decent...

I doubt i can get a refund because he didn't say anything about the condition, as Indy said i think i'll be happier when i get the scratches out set it up and put a bkp in it. I just wish he had said it was in players condition or something.

Here's a better pic of the scracthes, it also has some little dents in it too i have no idea how he did that, but can anything be done about those dents or are they un-fixable?

Scratches can be polished out.  The dents maybe could be filled a bit and buffed up?  Don't know though.

Hope you got it for a good price?

haha well if i had seen it at this price in a shop i wouldn't have paid that much for it. I got it for £450 including hard case (which is a damn good hardcase haha) but £24 added on for postage.

If he didn't mention that the condition was pretty poor then he should have.

On ebay it's the sellers responibility to describe any faults/flaws with any item.

Put it this way. How much more is it going to cost you to fix up, not including the pickup - which I would check is actually Gibson?

I would go for a return/refund.

Hmm i agree he should have said but i'm not sure about returning it, it has the potential to be a good guitar imo, pickup i was planning to change even if it was in good condition because i knew i wouldn't like it. Action is minor problem and the chips are not bothering me really because they would happen eventually anyways.
It's just the scratches and those dents that annoy me because they are really bad and it's a shame considering the finish on the guitar.

MOJO .. Ah of course. My bad  :D

Nah seriously if you're happy with it then that's great but you are in your 'rights' if you want to go for a return.

Try and get a partial refund for 'costs of the issues that weren't explained' ?
and use the money for a BKP!
