Which Teese wah would you recommend?
« on: January 16, 2008, 01:19:19 PM »
I am utterly stuck trying to pick a new wah!! Can any Teese owners give any guidance?

Background: I use a Fernandes Ravelle Deluxe, with Seymour Duncan JB/Jazz pickups through a Marshall JCM900 into a pair of Vintage 30's in a 1936 cab.

I rather like the sound of the RMC2 for the volume boost and sweet spot adjustment.

The RMC3 however is totally adjustable but all that stuff is based on internal trimpots so it can't be done on the fly and seems to actually have a little too much adjustability.

The Picture Wah sounds like THE classic wah.

The Wizard Wah is a cross between the RMC1 and Picture wah, so kinda like vintage-meets-modern.

Wheels Of Fire is the classic "English" sounding wah, with some external controls.

I think you should try before you buy. I have the RMC3 and am quite happy, however, sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't have gotten something simpler, as I quite often change settings, and it's a bit annoying.

If you're not sure what you want, getting a Fulltone Clyde or Deluxe from US is a safe bet, as you can always resell without loss in Europe. RMC is less known, sth to keep in mind if you cannot try before buying.

I've had an RMC Wheels of Fire wah and it was really nice and gave a great Clapton/Page wah tone.  I finally got my hands on an RMC Picture wah and prefer it to any other wah I've tried, for it's more mid-like/Hendrix wah sound and because it has less features.  This is my 5th wah and after having wahs that I could tweek all day with, I prefer to have something with no features at all!

I think I'm heading the same way man, I love how customisable the CFH is but now I find myself thinking "maybe I should change this... and that..." when I really don't need to. I just want a good, cutting wah sound with a volume boost.

Hey Ed, was just setting up my stuff at home and threw a quick clip with the RMC3 in Logic.

It's the factory setting with volume just a tad higher than the recommended noon setting. (Factory is Mid and Bass Max, Q at 11, 4,5,6 dips on, 9/9 on fine tuning and Vol at 12)

Gives you an idea I hope ...

Very nice ,Hunter! So,it works very well for saturated lead sounds...is it as good for cleans (a new clip? 8) )?Somebody told me the Picture (RMC4) was the best for clean sound,à la "Voudoo chile",but was not that good for saturated lead sounds.Would you say so,Canadian Steve?I'm also in the hunt for a great wah..Do you know the Garmopad one? It's a modded Vox V847 with great reviews on Harmony ;it has about the same features than the RMC3 but is cheaper.I'm not looking for features on my wah but it's maybe necessary to get good results with clean/saturated sounds?

All the new Teese wahs come with the Foxrox retrofit as standard, so it sounds just as good with distortion, as it does with cleans.  The Teese WOF wah I had didn't have this and wasn't great with distorted sounds.

I have only tried the WOF wah and the Picture wah.  I would really like to try the new Joe Walsh RMC wah though!  I think it's similar to the picture wah but with a different sweep.

Firstly, thanks VERY much for that. Very kind of ye. :)

Secondly, daaaaaayaumn!! That sounds so good! That's pretty much spot on in terms of the wah tone I want. It's not trebley, really thick and mid-heavy to cut through, the bass keeps some life in it!

So, that's the RMC... all the internals kept exactly the same apart from a slight hike on the volume?

Phwoar mate. Phwoar!  :D

If possible, I want THAT sound with an external volume boost basically - I've emailed Teese again, see what he says. The site mentions that a few of the wahs have that "darker" sound.

Correct, setting is RMC3 factory with internal Vol at 12.30 instead of 12.00. Played into an RC Booster with gain at 9.00 and rest at noon into the Shiva, 2nd channel, boost off.

What Erik v.d. Haar told me (Haarguitars.nl) when I was at his shop and compared the RMC1 and RMC3 that the 3 is like the 1 but with a bit more oomph.

To be fair at that time some of the recent models didn't exist though.

Good luck.
