well, its improved, but its based off of maggot brain by funkadelic, so its not totally improv. Anyway, i know i'll get yelled at about timing again, but oh well. once again, for some reason my computer will only do playback at incredibly low volumes, so i really couldn't hear the rhythm track while i was playing over it, i just kind of tried to keep a beat in my head. maybe you can let me know how the tone sounds. this is my first time recording my Engl E530. I tried a bit harder this time to get a decent recording, but its harder than i thought. recording tips, and any other playing tips will be appreciated as always.

(oh, the drum track and rhythm was looped with my rc-2 (also new, very fun) and miced up, and the lead was line in from the frequency compensated output on my ENGL, along with also being miced up.)

I find it sorts out timing a LOT and gives a better feel for the song

yeah, i do. the problem is, when i can't hear the backing track, eventually my tapping falls out of timing too. I'm trying to figure out a way so i can hear that track while i'm recording.

thanks about the sound. i think its a mix of the ENGL, and i also changed a few things up with mic placement and stuff. I used one of my top speakers in my cab so the sound wasn't too bassy, and i used my headphones to listen to the differences in the mic placement, rather than just stick a mic in front of a speaker. didn't realize it actually made a difference.

one thing i can't quite figure out though is why my sound turns to mush when i try recording something distorted. I tried recording a couple other things, but it sounded terrible. Even on my 3rd channel (out of 4) and the gain backed down it still sounded like too much distortion and muddy. I have my mixers output turned down enough so i'm not overloading the copmuter, but maybe its just that the computers so old.

Back again i see.  Well your guitar is in tune, that's a start.  And i would say you got the feeling in the song in some places, however, in others not so much.  It is hard to give tips on feeling.  You either got it or you don't, or you build it over time.

haha, well thats what i'm hoping for. i have no $%&#ing sense of rhythm or feel, even though i feel like i do. so hopefully it gets better over time.

I think you got feel, and I really did'nt hear  the timing that bad off at all.  Whenever you get your sound monitoring issue with the rythm track to where you can hear it, it sounds like you will be right on the money.  hearing is everything, in my opinion.  I like to have the rythm sound almost as loud as my lead, or I won't  nail the rythm  keep up the good work.
