Blackstar HT-dist vs. HT-dual
« on: January 18, 2008, 11:18:07 AM »
Hey!

Thought i'd post the response to my email to Blackstar about the two, im interested what you think about it. Actually i didnt find the dual of any more use then the dist i have, i use it mainly as a booster now at which is shines like nothing i have. I think the main reason why i think the ch2 sounds different is because the eq just works different for either channels and setting it up for ch1 makes ch2 sound very different, but anyway. Heres the email and the response.

Hi!

I have been searching some more info on the HT series and i have a question about the HT-dual which i cant seem to find an answer to.

It is said on the net that the dual is actually a HT-dist but split up into two channels. Now i have the HT-dist and channel 2 on the dual does not sound like the dist i have when set to higher levels, are the channels voiced differently, like channel two is more voiced like the distx? Or am i experiencing sample difference.

The dist i have sounds more like the somewhat extended crunchchannel of the dual, not nearly as dark and heavy as ch2 on the dual, the dual ch2 sounds to have more gain also.

Anyway, great piece of gear, will probably get the booster or the dual aswell!

Greetings from holland.

With kindest regards,

Henk

The voicing on both channels is very similar.  There is much more gain on Channel Two.  Try turning the gain to about a quarter on Channel two but increasing the volume.  It will then match channel 1 (and hence a HT-Dist) much more.

Hope it helps getting the best out of your dual,

greetings, Henk

That's pretty much how I have the red channel on my Dual - gain around 10 o'clock to 10:30.  I have the green channel around midday......

I have tried the Dual again today just to try some extra settings, still think the dist sounds a little bit clearer then the dual though.

Anyway, im kind of disapointed about the amount of noise the unit generates past noon gain setting, at the moment i use it at volume at about 2 oclock and gain on about 9 ish. I really like the ISF controll set just a bit to the USA side, really nice punchy bottom end roar there, at least on my marshall JCM rig. It is an absolute tone freakyness machine, just love it!
