i think reverends look cooler.

haven't tried either, but for that slightly unconventional (but not too much) retro vibe, the reverends look cool, at least.

of course, either both or none may suck.

the St. Blues, as mentioned in the Guitarist review, is quite a bit like the Gibson Blueshawk.

That's all i have to say about that.

To be fair, St Blues were making guitars very much like the one above 7 or 8 years before Gibson launched the Nighthawk series.

i wasn't saying it was a rip off, just that the body shape, f-hole and pickups reminded me of the blueshawk.  i don't actually know much about St.Blues, first time i heard of them was in a guitar magazine last year, but i seem to recall them saying it was a well known and long established brand in the states.  Maybe Gibson ripped them off!  :P

Sorry blue, I misunderstood.  I think Gibson should have stuck with the Hawk series, I never actually owned one but they were nice little guitars for those of us who find Les Pauls a bit hefty.

i always liked the hawks myself, and i have a Blueshawk (unfortunately in red, i couldn't find a blue one    )  it is a great little guitar, and unlike any other Gibson i've played, much more vintage Fender in feel.

i sometimes dream of a Nightwawk 3 pickup standard with Floyd Rose.  they are out there, just hard to find! and that bridge pickup would be a bugger to replace if you didn't like it.

Yeah, that was typical Gibson "Roy Walker" design (it's good, but it's not right).  I'm sure the fact that it was impossible to replace the bridge (and middle) pickups must have put off a few prospective buyers.

I couldn't make up my mind about the looks of this guitar but then I thought that the looks should be secondary to the playability/tone and then I kind of found myself warming to it.

I tried one on Saturday, hoping to fulfil my Tele gas. They look really cool despite the funny proportions, and well finished.

I didn't try it for long though as the neck just threw me. Highly glossed and on the thick side... didn't even plug it in. But judging by the clips from the Guitarist CD, if you don't mind the neck it seem like a really sweet guitar for nearly 1/2 the price of a MIA guitar from the big names.

Thick neck I like.  Does the guitar "feel" small, as it looks?
