WHAT STRAT PICKUPS FOR SRV TONE?

After all, the standard vintage Fender Strat neck was a "B" size, and you don't see too many B-shaped Strat necks.  

It would need two truss rods, that's for sure.  But at least you'd always know where to put your thumb.  

Although the Cray body makes a nice starting point for building a 1968-69 hardtail, but only if you get it in sunburst.

Mine's a sunburst.  I like the other two colours, but I already have another Inca Silver Strat.  The neck's a great shape, my favourite of all the Strats I've owned - but that's only modern stuff and reissues, nothing vintage.

I have two strat copies: of plywood bodies, mind you.  My first bkped strat was with Irish Tours(neck and middle).  For SrV's dirty tone  I thought  they nailed it, and were fantastic for anything else with gain, especially middle by itself.  Later I built another strat with a squire body to try Apache's to get a little closer to SRV's softer, hollower in between clean sounds ala Lenny, And nailed that with Apaches.  They sounded great through my own Rivera, which doesn't have stellar cleans, but through a Bassman,  Wow! Awesome!   The Irish Tours just love gain, and are loud enough to hang with a Nailbomb in the bridge.  APaches also do great dirty blues as well, but The Tours just have that "dig in more, give you more " tone. Love 'em both!  Hope that helps.

I'm pretty close to  SRVs tone with my fender hot rod deluxe with a celestion vintage 30 speaker, my strat with fat 50s pickups and a maxon od808. My clean sound is perfect but when i turn on the maxon OD808 it gives to much midrange. Is there a mod that would give it less midrange?

Basically Irish Tours would be excellent.

But, Apaches would also work.

IMO Apaches are a just that bit sweeter sounding.
