I have a Gibson Les Paul with BB1 and BB2 humbuckers.

It seems to me that this pickups are very aggressive with "duck's" médium.

I am looking for a softer vintage pickup but with richs harmonics and great sustain.

For instance, I'm trying to approach Eric Clapton's sound on the Blues Breakers Album record un april 1966

First thoughts would be along the lines of the Stormy Monday or perhaps the Mule.

However Phil or Tim would be the best folks to comment upon the best choice as regards this.

I would go with the PG Blues set for that sound. These are a Stormy Monday based set with the out of phase sound when both pickups are selected. If you don't like the idea of a reversed neck pickup (needed in this set for the out of phase sound), then a regular AII Stormy Monday set would do it. The Mule has a little more drive and would be more like the ZZ Top 'Pearly Gates' tone.

Realy ? I love SD "Pearly Gates" sound, but I want "aged nickel" cover and SD have not it

The SD Pearly Gates bridge is 8.35K with AII magnets, which is almost the same as an AII Mule (8.4K). If you love this sound, then perhaps an AII Mule set would suit (or if you want a little more 'hollowness' in the neck, an AII Stormy Monday neck might be the way to go).

Just thought i could chip in some relevant clips, the first is a very early clip of Clapton noodling around a bit and explaining stuff about his sound.

Second clip is from someone who posted here some time ago, he has Mules and playes on a modded BB, Mules are wayyyy better sounding then pearlies.

Anyway, if you ask me, stormy's AII are spot on for early Clapton blues, no question. Kind of figures actually, stormy mondays.... Clapton 8)

The name is from the Allman Brothers version of Stormy Monday.

Ah sorry for the mixup then, found the stormy monday track from the 60's John Mayall and the Bluesbreaker band, in which Clapton played back then, great sound and track, very sweet PAF sound...... More Mules like if you ask me though, or maybe SM with AIV?

Kind of significant difference between SM and Mule i think, the bit more hollow/bluesy tone to it.

Some great ABB clips - those guys got some great tones and were so distinctive as players.

I think this deserves digging the Fillmore CD out and crankin it up.

I think I will choice a "The Mule" set wtih aged nickel cover.

But what is the difference between :
- aged nickel / aged raw nickel ?
- potted / unpotted coil (I want to choice the most similar "Gibson PAF 57 - 61" pickups) ?

Raw nickel is new but not polished, the Warpig/MQ set are raw nickel.

Aged nickel is actually made to look old, so you will see lighter lines where the strings were. The picture with 3 pickups shows an old 1960's Gibson cover at the top, and a pair of unpotted AII Stormy Monday's below.

They both look very similar in the photo, but there is no wear or tarnish on the raw nickel. They are more of a brushed finish.

Unpotted is the way that Gibson used to make the pickups in the 50's and 60's, though BK do pot the magnet to help prevent squeal. Potted was done to stop pickups squealing with high gain. I think that there is a slightly more open tone to the unpotted, but you would really need to run a blind test with the same guitar and amp to prove it! I don't have any squeal problems with my unpotted Stormy Mondays and they are in a 335.
