Are you going to replace the neck humbucker or just have the bridge?
For now, just the bridge. The guitar needs a lot of work (refret, refinish, new bridge etc...) so this is my way of finding out whether it's worth spending the money on. If it sounds as great as I hope it will, I'll buy a neck unit (Abraxas?) and get it back into decent playing condition.
What I was really curious about was if I could get pickup covers by Tim which didn't have pole pieces sticking out of it. All the ones I've seen have at least one coil with pole pieces sticking out.
Think you'd lose a lot of output and clarity with that.
Tim's explanation to me was that the pole pieces are what project the magnetic field upward towards the strings. By using longer polepieces (i.e screws/bolts instead of slugs) you get a more powerful field at the strings, giving you better tracking and bass response. Hence my double row VHII should be a little riff-monster  .
He also mentioned that the fact that the screws go through the backplate does something, but I forget what  .
I may ask Tim for some double purple's
That was my original idea, but I changed my mind after I'd already placed my order. Very glad I did now too!
Btw, I should probably pass on that Tim doesn't stock F-spaced purple bobbins. My guitar has a Floyd, but he pointed out none of the guitars in the 70s and early 80s had f-spaced pickups. "Tf it was good enough for Eddie"...
