i have used TV jones before and really liked them... its just not the sound i want for most of my guitars.

the filtertron+ is a great 'modernized' version of the classic gretsch sound

The pickups on the Special are indeed DeArmond 2000's. Nice low output single coils but not the same as the Dynasonics.

I have a Gretsch Power Jet that sports a set of TV Jones Powertrons. They're basically Filtertrons with taller bobbins wich allow more winds. The result is a Filtertron with more output and midrange without being 'overwound'.
