There is an online program called Audacity which you can download for free. Google it, not sure of the name of the website. I used it to do numerous recordings and it worked out great, has some great effects and options, and is free. There were some annoying in it but I think those have since been fixed. It's worth a try and it's free!!

If you use Audacity, I can help you out a bit. :)

I don't know why you want more than Audition, from what i can tell it's more than good enough!

Get a damned amp and decent mic set up first ;)

I find it too limiting when im trying to do certain things.

then again i guess i could just get loads of decent vst plugins (most of which audition doesnt support)

actually i just remembered i have reaper installed on my usb drive.

how could i forget that. All i use it for is EZDRUMMER

If Cakewalk confuses you, you will never be able to use one of the more powerful aps.

I would suggest getting a 'how to' book for the version of Sonar you own.

Sonar is what I would consider a 'gateway' ap to to even more powerful programs.

Why dont you get on with Reaper? I find it really nice to use, much better than an old version of Cubase I have. Plus its cheaper :)

I use the free Kjaerhus Audio plugins with Reaper - find them to be very good:

Of course, you might also be better off with a standalone HDD recorder. They are a lot more hands on than any DAW.
