I'm looking for at least a decent output pickup but the key is that the eq range of the pickup has to be on the darker side of things. I'm looking for a crunchy low-mid sound with slightly attenuated highs and deep, tight lows. Right now the closest pickup I've come to meeting this is the Duncan Invader. I've also tried the Tom Anderson HN3+ but the mid's were voiced too highly and it makes things sound too bright. Amp wise I'm using a Matamp GTL140 (and soon to be GTO140) into a 4x12 and 2x15 run at very high volume but set with low-gain so the bulk of my distortion comes from the power tubes....I even use clean boost to hit the tubes harder. I also use baritone tunings. Overall I'm pretty happy with the tone of the Duncan but if I can find better I'll take it. Also the Duncan doesn't clean up all that well when I turn down the volume but I mainly use the neck pickup for cleans so it's not a huge deal.
