Well this is a remarkable amp/cab rig. First up was a vintage Fender strat and it sounded splendid. Very tight, loads of gain but not too much, an awesome clean channel, good crunch and amazing lead tones.
I heard it one-on-one in comparison with a Marshall Vintage Modern, also through the same 5150III cab. And the EVH was tons heavier, louder and just much more PHWOAR!
Next up was a Gibson LP with stock pickups, what a difference! The LP sounded rather bad, far too much gain and sizzle, must have been those 500T pickups, they are real bad. I didn't like the amp at all with the LP.
Also, when I heard the shop owner play and I was dialing the settings, I liked it very much, however when I played myself, I only liked the cleans. It was too tight in the other channels for my taste.
Compared to the Peavey 5150 that I owned in the 90s, this is a very very different beast, much tighter and versatile.
It's a good amp, but for my taste it's too harsh/tight, pretty much like other Fender designs I played. If I could afford it and would be a rock superstar, I would probably still get one for the punchy cleans.
