Rebel Yells playing heavy Nine Inch Nails style riffs
« on: March 09, 2008, 12:54:17 PM »
Hi guys,

Here's some more clips of my own music, using the RYs in a Gibson Les Paul.  The "amp" is a Pod XT, which is just awesome for recording with.

I quad tracked the guitars for choruses, and double tracked for the climbs.  There is a little clean playing in the bridge, but it's mostly all out dirt.

The song "The Great Pretender" is the new one, and should play when you go to my myspace.

Cheers

i actually really like this song.  However, everything but the vocals seemed a little thin production-wise.  Maybe if you doubled up or tripled up the guitars and put the drum track higher in the mix it would work better.  :)

Are you the same one who the insane drummer kid of 17 asked if he could be in your band?  If so, how did that work out?

i had a listen through the rest of the tracks and you seem to use the same electronic backdrop with all of them.  For variety's sake, i would say experiment a little more, go outside what you might consider to be your boundaries and you might find something of value.  Experimentation is a dangerous thing though, too much and you could really fvck everything up, too little and everything will just sound kinda samey as the current situation.  The music sounds all well and good, but if your primary influence is NIN, just look how much Trent Reznor experiments... Just a suggestion.

Yep, I am still in talks with his "manager" (aka his mum) about meeting up for jams etc.  I'm pretty keen to get him on board.  I have since found a fantastic bass player.

I've got some more songs coming that are different again to these three, one which is built around a phrygian drone riff and then drops into a huge dorian sequence, one which is more Deftones style, one which is very Linkin Park style (but no rapping...).  I'll post as I finish each.

+1

I think the vocals need to be more upfront, but I actually like the song itself and the playing which is the main thing.
