VHII vs Rebel Yell
« on: March 21, 2008, 09:23:24 PM »
I am in the process of building an Explorer:
- alder body
- maple neck with ebony fb
- Floyd Rose trem
- bolt on neck

I play classic and 80's rock through a Marshall JVM410. I prefer sounds like early VH and AC/DC, without having to nail them exactly. I have an EBMM Axis with a set of VHII's I like very much, but I was wondering how a set of RY's would do in the Explorer.

I switch guitars on stage, so I need my guitars to roughly have the same output.

Should I go for another set of VHII's? I do need good cleans and I hate muddy pickups.

Thanks!

without meaning to sound obvious; if you want the same output and you're loving the classic rock vibe then why not look at the black dog or maybe even the riff raff.

One thing I would say is that the rebel yell does do great cleans - and i certainly dont think you'd get mud from any of the BK range especially in an alder body guitar.

The Black Dog is a good suggestion, Ben - thanks. How does the BD compare to the VHII soundwise?

Here's two clips, VHII and Black Dog.

Not the same guitar, or even Alder. But I hope it poses a.. suitable comparison. I hope so..

You can guess which pickups are used.
