Cos I hate the POD XT. I spend more time trying to make it not make my ears cry than actually doing anything with it.

I hope its good.

If the POD XT sounds like my Toneport the Tonelab is much better.

Tonelab LE, I take it?

It has good amp modelling but is lacking in the effects department. I can't understand why Vox put compression, and wah etc in with the drive section.

If it was for recording only it would be fine but for live work - if you want to have patches with use amp modelling, drive, compression, wah etc - it's no use, unless you buy a seperate drive unit, compressor and a wah etc .... which is kind of pointless as that's the reason you buy a multi FX unit in the first place.

Needless to say, mine is going on ebay.

Its only for recording.

I just want the tones to knock tracks up without having to crank the powerball and marshall sitting behind me.

I really want a Tonelab SE... this silver one, eh, puts me off a little.

I could've had one for £120 too :(

I had two, both broke within 5 minutes of me getting them. I hope the new ones are better build quality.

They're built like tanks on the outside. I'm not so sure about the inside though.

The Kustom HV series I have my eye on has the same tube/ss hybrid system but with XLR speaker emulation line out capability.

I got it.

Its way, way better than the XT. There are fewer models, but the quality (while nothing on an MD421 infront of a V30 in an Uberkab being driven by a powerball) is far superior.

You can get some really cool sounds with the combinations of pedals (some of which simulate ODs) and amp models.

Much easier to use, too.

You cant have any combniation of effects: there is a chain of 5, that have 12 or so to 20 or so on each (classed as Pedal, Amp, modulation, delay and reverb) and you cant use 2 effects from one bank at once, but I dont care. I wont use the vast majority anyway.

For a non-effects junkie like me, thats just after OK tone to rough songs out with, its a great way to throw tracks together

Verdict:

Two thumbs fresh

The LE does make some good noises but does have some glaring drawbacks.

If they had only put the compression in a different section - that could be used with a pedal model - I'd be keeping mine.

The wah is the same but I can live with that as I rarely use wah but to lump compression in with the pedals is just silly IMHO. Compression, when used correctly can really turn a decent tone into a killer one.

Once I sell my LE, i'm going to start building a pedal board.

I have a compressor  :P

Valid criticism of it, though. I'm just saying its not an issue for me.
