the painkiller is closer to tremonti pickup
maybe a painkiller with a darker winding
if you're using mesa stuff, i'd recommend something ceramic
the holy diver is my #1 pickup, but ceramics help to take off the muddy bass of the recto
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

I'm using the bogner uberschall. Thats acually mark tremonti's main amp now. And their new album is sick.....great songs!! I don't see how the painkiller could acheive a sound like that, it's so smooth and chunky the painkiller is rough more compressed tone. I could be wrong though....

before the tremonti signature, he used a gibson 500t in his PRS guitars
the painkiller sounds like a 500t without the mud and excessive compression and a bit more attack
bogner amps are already smooth and chunky
you won't lose it

i recorded a cr@ppy video with a friend playing his custom brazilian  mahogany ibanez + painkiller and my framus cobra:

but the holy diver would be a great choice anyway
i recorded this one with the slo preamp clone i had and that little power amp head with 6550's:

i had a single recto and the miracle man and the gibson 500t worked better than the holy diver for distorted stuff on that amp
i never played an uberschall, but if you think the low end is similar to a recto, you should try with something ceramic
the painkiller is a great pickup for modern hi gain amps
not thin or 80's sounding
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

I wouldnt go for a painkiller for that.

Its too middy and too crunchy. Thats a smoother, treblier tone.

From the clips and descriptions I've heard, the HD would get you there.

From what I've played, thats a miracle man with the treble rolled back a bit more than normal, or a warpig with the gain a bit lower than hes probably playing it with.

For the record, the Painkiller sounds very different than the 500T. Similar DC and magnet, but theres way more to it than that ;)

Edit: I played an Uber with a C-Pig. I didnt dial that exact tone in, but in my twiddlings of tone that was definately in there, so thats an option too.
