What wah?

What's everybody got Wah wise? I run the RMC Wizard (Tim used it on the BKP demos) I sometimes wish it was a bit  more vintage sounding....

Any ideas for a smooth wah, vintage wah and a more aggressive wah?

At the mo, I have 2. One in my pedal bag/board, the other for when I do any recording.

The pedal board one is your common or garden CryBaby GCB-95. Nothing to write home about.

The other was a bit of an eBay find, which kind of restored my view of eBay a bit. It's a ColourSound Wah-Wah, that looks more like a big red shoe shine box, but has a wonderful vintage tone to it. The downside is the fact that it is only battery powered, though if I really wanted to, I could rig up some kind of power connection, though I wouldn't want to damage/modify the case. According to the Harmony Central review, it has the dubious credit of being the Isaac Hayes "Shaft" Wah. Cool. ;)

I gig a standard Crybaby wah,on its own it sucks the tone really bad when its of,but i have a true bypass box that i kick in to bring the wah in to the loop.I did have a vox wah and regret parting with it but the crybaby is cool.

I don't own a wah! I originally had a Crybaby back in the day, and then had a Morely Pro Wah/Volume, but I never really used 'em, so I gave them both away.

JH 1 Hendrix wah that Dunlop make is on my board.........I've done a true bypass mod so it's pretty transparent.
I too have an original Coloursound Wah.........beautiful but a touch too microphonic for live so it lives in my studio these days.....lovely tone.

I have a Vox 847 wah that's been modified for True Bypass, it's had an external volume control fitted so I can balance the wah/un-wahed sounds and it's also got an external 'Q' control that slightly changes the tone and feel of the wah.

I like it a hell of a lot more than the standard Crybaby that I had before :)

the new Zakk Wylde wah is meant to be good.

can even alter the 'stiffness' of the pedal action etc

My guitarist has got the Mark Tremotti (spelling) Power Wah, it sounds damn sweet, switchless, and you can adjust the delay time so if you want the wah to carry on for a while after youve taken your foot off, or if you want it to stop dead.

I currently use the Morley Bad Horsie 2, but i might have a twiddle with smithys cause i'm considering switching.

I have an old Jen Crybaby that I use mainly as a tone boost.  My main wah is a musitech tube wah - it uses a 12AU7 (I think - it is a while since I was in it).  JJ Cale and Bugs Henderson both use it.  It is a great front end to a valve amp.  I also have an older Morley, but I find it is almost more like a volume pedal in some ways (and who thought it was a good idea to have bass 'down' and teble 'up'  :evil: ).  Last one is a sort of hybrid wah-volume, a Snarling Dogs 'Erogenous Moan'.  It is supposed to be a backwards guitar sound.

I also have a Mu-Tron and E-H Dr Q envelope filters.

You modded your 847 to be true bypass?

Ok, I thought the test for true bypass was to take out the battery and see if you still get a signal through it?

I did that, and it does. So I though the 847 was true bypass already?

I cant see that mine being some sort of special edition having lots of little union jacks all over it makes any difference  :lol:

Where am I going wrong?

I have one of the Crybaby Classic's - the Dunlop Crybaby's but fitted with the original Fasel inductors. Its really nice, but Im often tempted by a Teese Picture Wah.

Skybone, you wouldnt need to actually touch the case of your wah if you wanted to power it by the mains. As long as its a 9V battery, then you get adapters which fit into the battery socket, and draw the power from the mains. Zvex sells Power Plates, like this:

but obviously those are sized for his pedals. But I'm sure Godlyke or someone includes an adapter with one of their one-spot power source things, i think.

I've got one of those Ibanez Weeping Demon Wah's. It's got a high/low switch eq and low pots plus it can be used likea morley or a cry baby. Sounds wicked!

crybaby 535 Q for defin8... its an amazinly versatile wah and will do everything you need with the variable Q settings  :wink:
