Best humbucker for prog?

I’m looking to replace the humbucker in the bridge of my strat copy. It got a basswood body, with a maple neck and rosewood finger board.

The amps I use are a Fender 2X12 Deville and an Orange Rockverb head and cab.

I’m looking for a tone similar to that of Robert Fripp during his early King Crimson days (the Court of the Crimson King album particularly), but the pickup also has to be able to cover the more aggressive sounds of more modern progressive band like The Mars Volta.

I was thinking of getting a Rebel Yell, though I’m slightly worried that this will be too high output and won’t match well with the Mississippi Queen I have in the neck.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Just listened to that album (COTC King) yesterday, great album!  I have a set of Rebel Yells in a Guild S-100 and I would say that the bridge RY would match your MQ very well (being a P-90).  There's a lot of Bare Knucklers on here that match a MQ with a Warpig!
BKPS: Cryogenic Apache set, Mule set, Riff Raff, Stormy Monday.

In your opinion how close do you think the RY could get to Robert Fripps tone?

I guess ultimately I’m looking for a pup that can deliver a think/fat sound, with quite a lot of bite and mids. Do you (or anyone else) have any suggestions? Or would the RY cover this?

And yes your right COTCK is an exceptionally good album. :)

The RY would be like a PAF on steroids, very nice cleans, providing they're set up properly and they're one of the most 'middy' p'ups I've tried with a lot of bite.  Have you considered a matching bridge MQ?  The only other p'ups I can think of to get close to that sound would be a Mule or a Stormy Monday.
