Anyone got one?

I am looking to get a decently priced overdrive pedal to push my amp and have read rave reviews about this thing. For the price it's hard to ignore. I have had horrible experiences with Digitech. Can anyone sell me on this thing so I can go buy it? :D

I tried this pedal through a randall valve head when I was trying out my guitar before buying it and I remember it sounding good. I was focusing more on the guitar itself but I didn't notice any any of the nastiness I'd usually asociate with digitech distortion/overdrive effects.

For £30 you might as well pick it up anyway :D

If you're not too keen on Digitechs reliabilty. Why not look into the Boss SD-1? I've used mine for years and it's still going strong. Though I do have a custom overdrive pedal coming soon which will replace it.

Or maybe a Maxon/Ibanez TS-9 or 808?

Actually, I have the five star Keeley modded SD-1 and I love it. It's the only overdrive unit I have used for the last couple years. The Bad Monkey spiked my interest because it has a high a low tone knob on it and that would give me a bit more flexibility. I was thinking about using it in front of the SD-1 and reading so many great reviews about it.

Yeah, that's another option. I started a thread a while back about buying an EQ pedal. Got lots of great suggestions. Just didn't get around to buying one.

was playing my modded boss ge-7 just now, put me in mind of this thread. its an incredibly useful pedal, and will stay with me for some time. wouldn't mind trying out one of those bad monkeys though.

it was a secondhand boss ge-7 which i modded myself with the monte allums plus kit. i'm sure ebay and google will reveal more accurate price information. i can tell you its absolutely fiiiiiiine pedal :)

my hohner b2a is a really great instrument. everyone who tries it comments how easily it plays. i use it all the time. i don't know about modern hohner, or the left hand bass you mean.. but if this old 1987 instrument is anything to go by, it should be good. hohner has really good customer service anyway. i just ordered some spares and they sent me a couple of their latest catalogues - they have an interesting range, i even got a bit of mild GAS.

I have a bad monkey - I would say two things

1. It doesn't have quite the mid range hump of the TS series
2 It is not particularly loud in effect - compared to a TS7 or a TS9 its quite a gentle effect.

Its very good for £30 however.

I don't have one but a lot of Gretsch players have one and love it. It works well if you want a clean amp to have a dirty edge.

I have a BM, and I use it in conjunction with a Boss OD3 or DS1. The key to the BM is the tone controls, particularly the low knob. which can provide tremendous bottom end "oomph" to the tone. With tones at centre, its an OK pedal but comes into its own when the tones are at around 3 o'clock or higher.

The BM is great on its own, but I find itreally shines ahead of a second OD, where the combination can produce some awesome tones. Try the BM on low gain but cranked tone controls, with a second OD set flat for tone, but higher gain. Very useful pedal, IMHO, and incidentally, built like a tank, - easily Boss standard in that respect.
