MT-2 Mods?
« on: April 03, 2008, 04:38:16 PM »
Just wondering if anyone's tried one and what your thoughts are on it.

I know there's the keeley, and Monte allum, and I'm really interested in the Monte Allum sustainia tri-gain mod at the moment .
I noticed that the regular MT2 mod's description says pinch harmonics are enhanced 4x, if this holds true for the trigain mods too then I'd be very interested ! :D

I read a review saying the trigain mod reduces the max distortion a bit, I'd like to know if it's a significant reduction, I want the mod to make it sing AND scream, don't wanna lose its METAL-ness.

oh yeah, I also found something called the MT2 OVERKILL mod on youtube, but not much on it on google, anyone heard of it?

I've got the Indyguitarist (now Wampler effects) book on modding pedals, go a few mods available, just changing a few caps give a huge eq range boost apparently. Their mods are always interesting and work nicely, worth thinking about.

I have the Sustainia mod with a Tri Gain switch.

Overall it sounds pretty good - MUCH better than the original sound of the MT-2, and the tri gain switch is pretty cool, but very annoying since the different diodes have completely different volumes, two of them are very similar, and then the 3rd is a fraction of the sound, so you can't really switch between them while playing.

I feel that alot of the original gain is lost from it, but its a very nice distortion pedal to use - I take it with me whenever I go to school or somewhere where I don't have my Engl.

You say a LOT? damn, I was hoping that wasn't the case.
What does it sound like at max gain after the mod then?

Maybe I'll try the standard MT-2 or just the sustainiac mod?
Or does the loss of gain apply to all 3 of MA's mods?

Get in touch with Joe Bodenhamer. He's an up and coming custom pedal and mod guy in the US. I've ordered one of his Bloody Murder overdrives, It's got rave reviews about it and it's cheap for me. He mods all kind of pedals including the MT-2. Go here

Its still a perfectly good metal distortion - and you still have alot of gain - but the original MT-2 has absolutely truck loads of gain - Too much infact, so its not really that much of an issue.

True. I'll take a serious look at this and the bodenhamer mod, the volume drop kinda bothers me, I wonder if it can be remedied if I bought one of those indyguitar books.

I know it's not very helpful, but I honestly don't think there's anything worth doing with an MT-2 other than putting it in the bin.

Actually, in saying that, you can probably get nigh-on it's retail value back on ebay, as you do with most Boss pedals, so, a few quid back on that, plus what you'd spend on mods and buy a distortion pedal that sounds good from the off?

Very good point.
Of course I've tought about this, but I was under the impression that the resale value on these things aren't THAT good.
I got mine for about $100 USD. I think that's roughly 50 pounds.

And... any recommendations for a nice and not too expensive pedal that will do balls to the walls distortion?
