New amp day

Nothing big but I picked up a Roland Cube 20X today and I love it. I wanted to get one from the cube series for home use and some recording so I tried them all out and found the 20X to be far and above better than the rest.
The 15X lacked the effects of the 20 and 30X but sounded quite good.

The 30X had compression and a few other settings more than the 20X as well as 10 watts more but I found the effects to be quite sterile with the 30X in comparison. That I found quite odd as they are essentially the same amp but I played them side by side and the difference was quite noticeable.

Of them all, the 20X sounded the best and I am really impressed with the little guy. I tried the 60X as well but that kind of defeats the whole home amp mentality with 60 watts.

The effects have exceeded my expectations as I really don't like effects and on-board effects never seem to be very good. But this amp really shines! Especially impressive is the tube drive setting- if you close your eyes you can almost fool yourself into thinking your playing a tube amp. The breakup simulation is very authentic and the whole sensitivity picking technology that they incorporated into this thing is genius.

The clean channel may be the best setting on the whole amp and is very chimey and smooth.  I love the on-board reverb as well and it really compliments the cleans.

The power squeezer is also a nice addition. You can get the amp to scream without blowing down the door. It does add a significant amount of low end though but I was able to tweak it with the EQ.

Two other pleasant surprises are that the amp is extremely quiet and also packs quite a punch for just 20 watts and as small as it is.

All in all you can't beat what it offers for 149 euros!

I've heard good things about the cubes, I had a microcube and thought it was impressive for what it was. But my next amp was a tube amp, and I've stayed with tubes since.

Extremely pleased! I'll be posting a youtube video in a minute using it to play comfortably numb. I used just the amp to record this.

Vid sounded great, but you were moving around too much and the camera blurred up, it was very hard on the eyes  :(

Sorry. I hate that webcam. At some point I'll invest in a new one.

The playing and tones sounded good though  :D

(We've only recently converted to broadband - the ability to download sounds and moving pictures is still new to me, so I'm not too harsh a judge of picture quality yet! I still can't even manage to get decent still shots of my guitars with my wife's camera yet - so I really don't feel I can complain!)
