That's a bit of a marathon Philly! Not sure I could do such an endurance event (although I'm off to see a triple bill of 'Sean of the Dead', 'Hot Fuzz' and 'The Worlds End' in the next few months).
As well as catching up with Breaking Bad and Prison Break (which is farcical but just about watchable) I have also been back to watching documentaries. The most recent ones being;
The Last Gladiators - centres on Chris 'Knuckles' Nilan and the role of the enforcer in ice hockey (essentially someone who is employed to fight). Not sure why I watched it as I'm not into Ice Hockey. That being said it is actually pretty decent and made me want to find out more about him. His story is the stereo typical one of somebody who lived for the sport and when he quit was totally lost without it.
Birdmen - The Original Dream of Human Flight - this was about people that enjoy jumping out of planes, off of cliffs and wearing 'wing suits'. Again a subject that isn't really close to my heart and something that I'm pretty sure I'll never do. Some of the wingsuit proximity jump footage is pretty breath taking and whilst I have some admiration for people that do it I can't help but feel they will all have a relatively short life. One of the people in the documentary died a week after being filmed for it (no spoilers there, he's only in it for a few minutes)
Jason Becker - Not Dead Yet - of the 3 documentaries watched this week this was the one that I enjoyed the most, not just because it was about guitar/music stuff (I'd never really heard or seen him play before watching this). The main enjoyment (not sure enjoyment is the most appropriate word to use here) in this one was how he has dealt with such a terrible and debilitating disease and how his family and friends have supported him throughout. Quite an emotional watch really, I had a friend die from MND a couple of years ago and it reminded me of some of the feelings I had when that was happening. The scenes around the time of him getting the gig with Dave Lee Roth but not being able to tour were pretty depressing. Highly recommended.
