Hi saw "State of play" recently.  It is maybe not a classic but is  well worth a watch.

I liked star trek. I'm not much of a trekkie but it was good and i think i got most of the references. And simon pegg wasn't too bad! the entire audience laughed when he told the midget to "git tae f..." A joke that wont mean much to non scots...

Saw Star Trek today, and it was amazing! That opening scene, rarely does an opening sequence hit you like a tonne of bricks like that. The old bottom lip was almost trembling, hehe.

Star Trek was great! Loads better than I was expecting it to be.
Just watched "A History of Violence", which was okay... worth a watch I'd say.
LOVING the Mules!

Samurai trilogy (also known as the Musashi Miyamoto movies). starring Toshiro Mifune .. watched the first one yesterday and have the others lined up for today and tomorrow (or maybe both today) and they are BRILLIANT movies on all accounts. I actually like the older movies better.. they made you connect with the charracters, which most movies of today lack and therefore the movies suck, or you forget about them the moment you stop watching.

anyway, 7 samurai, yojimbo, samurai trilogy .. heck most of what Mifune starred in is brilliant. highly recomended! (and the samurai movies are in colour! a rarity for a movie that's been shot in '54

Yojimbo and Seven Samauri are fantastic. Several of the Zatoichi pictures are fantastic too.

But none of them are up there with Ran, which doesn't get the recognition it deserves. A sublime picture.

I get all carried away with Ran, it's just wondrous start to finish.

If you're into the Samauri stuff, or Asian cinema generally, The Water Margin series is worth a look if you haven't seen it.
