I watched A Simple Plan this evening.  It was on TV a week or so ago, which prompted me to dig out my DVD.  Such a well-made film, perfectly paced, great performances (where is Bill Paxton nowadays?).  Very sad story though.

Good choice Philly. A very clever film and, as you say, very sad.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Just saw Boy A this evening. What a great film! Very watchable and it raises some good questions. I really like the social realism that you find in English films. It's nice to get in touch with reality instead of American films where everyone is perfect looking and the settings are smooth and pastel coloured.

Went to see "A Serious Man", the new Coen Brothers film yesterday and though it was GREAT! The shots were good, the characters were good, the dialogue was good, and I was laughing all the way through. I really appreciate this more subtle genre of contemporary American comedy, as opposed to all that Will Ferrell/Ben Stiller bullshitee.
Definitely recommended!

Almost forgot that I watched Crank High Voltage some weeks ago. Not an intellectual movie, but it doesn't try to be more than it is - a good B movie. It's very similar to the first Crank movie, but I still find it fun and entertaining. Also a quite interesting sound track from Mike Patton that really suits the movie.

Interesting!  It's had a lot of good reviews and I'm glad you liked it, but it left me a bit cold.  I found it sort of gently amusing, but I never really felt involved in it or connected with the characters.

Yeah, it's garbage.  I didn't mind the Hills Have Eyes remake, but the sequels (to both) should never have been made.

I've watched three films this weekend -

Watchmen - I was impressed and liked it despite some stupid moments (but then I never read the book).
Just Another Love Story - Danish thriller, pretty good but not as good as expected.
The Haunting In Connecticut - or "Just another Amityville story".

As absolutely shite as it may look in the trailers, Paranormal Activity is actually really good.

It feels like the Blair witch thing, but good (never quite 'got' what was so special about BWP). Its not a full bore ghost / spirit thing, it lulls you into a peaceful period before the climax, very well balanced film.

hmm, I've heard from other friends that it's shitee and far too much like Blair Witch (in that it looks shite and has a rubbish storyline).

No, I liked it!  I think by the time most people saw it they already knew too much about it and that spoiled it, but if you forget/ignore all the hype it has a real creepy atmosphere.

But maybe we can all agree that Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows was utterly rubbish?  The only good thing to be said about it is that they tried hard to do something different - but it didn't work at all.

I didn't know too much about it when I saw it. Still one of the worst cinema experiences I ever had.

I haven't seen the follower, but I can only imagine how bad it must be. I've seen the cover a few times and laughed at it from a safe distance.  :D
