I've got a few Blu Rays to watch over the new year break. THe ones I'll be watching first are Scott Pilgrim... and Saving Private Ryan.

I've also got a box set of Band of Brothers. Has anyone on here seen it?

scott pilgrim is canadian - the jokes are a bit flat and understated ;)

Indeed, I can understand why the film wasn't a commercial success. There are an enormous amount of geeky references, e.g. 8-bit graphics, Zelda sound effects, etc. I do really regret not buying a Rick bass 5-6 years ago when I had the chance at a good price... I'll just settle for a SARS t-shirt (that's a quality sight gag).

On the TV front, I've just finished Dollhouse - Season Two. The first season was promising but I can see why they cancelled it. There's a few good episodes but too samey, the endless personality swapping become dull.

Ian, I have seen Band of Brothers and I thought it was great. I also have the boxed set in the house somewhere but Mrs 38th is a crazy obsessed DVD buyer and it is rather like being in a branch of Blockbusters after they have just received their pre Christmas delivery and so finding it is a problem( we have a new TV you see and I am rather keen to see it again). I bought the boxed set of Pacific for my Brother recently but haven't seen that but would very much like to do so.

The box set. It's in a nice tin box.

I have the Band of Brothers bluray boxset, it's excellent :D

Watched Scott Pilgrim for the 3rd time yesterday, still really enjoyed it. My Dad thought it was rubbish though!

Yes, I have the DVD's (I'm not a downloader - though I have no specific objection to the practice) and all the episodes are on them. The episodes set in the future are some of the best ones.

Nothing to do last night so watched The A Team. Very over the top mindless fun. And I still don't like Jessica Biel.

I watched my DVD about Ronnie Lane on Mrs 38th's new tv. The man was a genius.

Defendor - Another in the line of everyman-superhero (Kick-Ass, etc.). IIRC it got average reviews but I quite enjoyed it. It's a bit all-over-the-place with a mixture of black comedy & sentimentality but Woody Harrelson performs well in the lead role. And there is a real message about society and its attitude to 'heroes'... worth a watch.

I liked Defendor - the trailer tries too hard to market it as a wacky comedy which probably killed off half the potential audience.
