Just watched The Hobbit and can't help but feel I've just wasted 3 hours of my life.
Part 2? I saw it over Christmas, couldn't get into it at all for the first half hour (partly because I haven't seen part 1 yet) but after that there was enough going on to hold my attention.
I am hugely disappointed by the way Peter Jackson has lost any ability to self-edit or show any degree of restraint in his films, but if nothing else they do
look spectacular.
I do get annoyed with the way all the action scenes contain endless sequences of collisions, falls, explosions, rope-swinging etc, all of which
might be survived maybe 1 time in 1,000..... but in a Jackson film nobody
ever misses that ledge or gets hit by that falling debris. I know it's only a film, but it's too stupid and it's too much.
I also saw
47 Ronin over Christmas. It's a bit dull and they can't seem to decide if they want to make a sombre samurai film or a dumb action flick, but I don't think it's as bad as the reviews have suggested.
