War Pigs vs Miracle Man in my Les Paul

I have a Platinum Les Paul Studio loaded with a set of Warpigs with the bridge coil tapped.

I love the pickups, but the idiot in me doesn't like their look!

So I've acquired a set of Miracle Mans to put in there and try out instead.

I will probably keep the coil tap in the bridge and wanted to ask what sought of caps I should use?

Looking for a modern sounding guitar with lots of bite and output to drive my valve amps and rack preamps. Usually I'm a Strat guy but I have 3 Les Pauls this on, a Classic with a set of EMGs and a Standard with Burstbucker Pros.

So I guess I want something different. I'm going to try the Miracle Mans out for say six months and if I don't get on with them swap them back again to the Warpigs.

Any advice on caps, wiring and/or opinions would be appreciated. The Platinum Les Paul is a good solid guitar and I want a pickup to match its weight and presence.

I use a Marshall JMP-1, a Mesa Studio Preamp and a Mesa V-Twin Rack mainly and I have a Mesa Lonestar Special 2x12 which I mainly use with my Strats. But I love its clean sound so would probably want to use this too from time to time.

I have my pedals down to a Klon, Big Muff, Budda Wah old Ibanez AD9 and a Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe.

Sometimes I use Guitar Rig and Amplitube as well.

I am basically recording mainly but play live once in a while too. I suppose I'm looking for a strong organic sounding guitar and not as clinical as my EMG loaded Les Paul.

the warpig sounds sludge metal or something
reminds me of crowbar or mastodon
i'd put a nailbomb or holy diver
the miracle man clean tone isn't bad
it's clean, just not too much detailed

Send the Warpig back to Tim and ask him to change the cover, if you really like the tone of it...

As you've said that has a LP with a set of EMG, put the Miracle Man on this guitar  8)

I have a 20 years old Les Paul Standard Silverburst with factory EMG 85 pickups and it's by far my favourite guitar ever. It sounds very classic, heavy and smoking with lots of balls. It doesn't sound scooped, fizzy or modern at all. Very rock 'n roll!

I like my EMGs and think they are great pickups.

Just need something different occasionally.

Stonevibe: How do the Warpigs sound eq-wise in your Les Paul? If you like the sound very much, I'd stick with them. If you don't like the sound too much, you can always try other BKP's but it's very important to know how it sounds at the moment (with the Warpigs). Based on that you could easily choose the right pickups for that platinum Les Paul Studio...

Sorry, I didn't want to be negative or something. It's just that I always hear bad things about EMG's and that people find them too scooped, fizzy, sterile etc. Judging the distorted sound clips on the forums I'd say it sounds very close to a Les Paul with VH2's. Maybe it's due to the original, weak and old electronics...I don't know. It sounds more classic than my 07' Les Paul Standard Faded and 06' LP Studio, at least in my hands  8)

I'm not a huge EMG fan since I do find them a bit sterile, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't got some killer tones from them.  I have a guitar w/EMGs right now that's a face melter.  Don't by those comments about them being scooped or fizzy.  People do say that, but it couldn't be further from the truth.  They're a very, very mid heavy pickup with very robust cutting highs.  What they lack is the bass, but that 's where they get some of their tightness.  I think the scooped and fizzy comments stem from those metal heads that think a killer tone is an axe w/EMGs and their amp controls set with bass-10, mids-0, high-10, gain-11.  That will definitely give a scooped and fizzy sound.

i was just kiddin'
the emg 85 doesn't sound scooped or fizzy
the 85 has too much of every frequency
the 81 is a bit scooped, but not fizzy
i had emg's for a while in both positions
i just can't stand them anymore
they actually doesn't lack bass, but depth
the sound jumps to the front, but doesn't have too much meat behind it (ok, that sounded weird :lol:)

Well I think EMGs are cool and I think I'll try the MMs in my Les Paul.

Any ideas for Cap Values?

and i also loved my emg 85 & 60 combo i never liked the 81s though
