Rebel Yell doing some Thin Lizzy..
« on: April 28, 2008, 04:01:06 PM »
I found a good mic position (just lean the mic against the grille, works really well actually) yesterday so thought I'd give recording another go. Setup was Pearl LP w/Rebel Yell > Keeley Rat for a bit of boost > GH50l > G12H > SM57.

Think I messed up a few times but it sounds allright :) Need to get a new neck pickup now, think the stock Pearl ones gone a bit microphonic as it squeals a bit, plus it doesnt sound very good next to a BKP anyway.. reckon I should go for a Rebel Yell neck again or something different?

I'd say something like a Mule or Riff Raff. Depends really what you want Tom.

Oh how inspiring our Video Call was  :P

I like it a lot Tom.

Is that a MIDI file of Rosalie? If it is I'd love to get a copy of it?

Its a backing track which I got off www.guitarbt.com. If you dont have an account there I could email you it?

Didnt really want to get a Mule neck for this as I allready have a Mule set for my Epi. Was thinking about a MQ for something a bit different but does it work well with a humbucker bridge?

I'm really liking the RY neck (and bridge for that matter) in my Tokai LP, so I'd definitely recommend the neck version!

Had the master on just above 1 I think, any louder and I cant hear the backing track  Still sounded really good in the room tho, think its more to do with my mic'ing and soundcard (just using stock onboard sound at the minute).

JJ, the Keeley Rat is a great pedal. I got it for really cheap from HJM on here ages ago :)

Hi guys I have read many posts on various Pickups on this site and others, and yet I am confused. I am a blues through Metallica Player and I am going to be switching out the cr@ppy Gibson stock pickups out of my Les Paul. I keep going back and forth between the Crawlers the Rebel Yell pickups, Holy Diver and Cold sweat pickups. I play through an orange tiny terror and orange cabinet with various pedals. I have a Les Paul Custom with Alnico 2 pros in them and that nails the Guns n Roses classic rock tone better than many pickups I have heard. However now in my second instrument I am looking to have a higher gain tone, yet I don't want to lose tone I am not into super high output pickups either. I play lots of Ozzy Osbourne, Led Zeppelin, Ac/DC Pink Floyd, Metallica, Guns n roses, Deep Purple, Hendrix. That Kind of stuff Tim said the RYs can nail that Randy Rhoads tone, but I wanted to double check it with you guys to see what you think. Give me your thoughts on the pickups I listed.
Mike
