Vintage V100/V100 ICON, are they different?
« on: May 07, 2008, 02:20:55 AM »
Well right now in the usual financial bind and having to sell my strat, and im looking at what i'll get to replace it when i have some money, time to get a mahogany les paul! my last one was tulipwood, how daft is that?

My last les paul, i loved everything but the softness of the tonewood, it was real soft, great for jazz, not rock.

But anyway, to my point, i've always wanted one of the Vintage Les Pauls, cheap but apparently their best, and i was wondering if anyone knew if the V100 and V100 ICON guitars (including the peter green one) are essentially the same guitars with different paint jobs/hardware?

I've only tried a Peter Green one and it was brilliant for the price, but i want a black one...!

Theres about £100 difference between a V100 and V100 ICON, and i really don't need that relicing effect.

P.S if anyone wants my single hum mexi strat, pm me ;)

I think that you are paying mainly for an upgrade of hardware and the finish, yes.

Having said that they may be made out of slightly more choice cuts of wood.
I too use chicken as a measurement.

Chappers does a 'demo'-esque of the V100 ICON, they're nice guitars.

It does seem to just be hardware, but usually 'better' guitars get preference to the better grade/look of woods.

Having said that, you could get the cheaper one and beef it up (with the £100 OC) Tonepros style. :)

I thought the regular V100s and the V100 Icons are essentially the same guitar but the Peter Green one is different with an actual maple cap. All are defintely as good if not better than the Epi version. I think the stock hardware was ok on the V100s. Chaneg the pups to BKPs though of course ;)

Adam I'm taking that strat off your hands if it's still available after I manage to sell my RG550 :)
