west yorkshire police are absolutely useless

last night about 8pm some chavs started on some friends that were coming to visit so we closed the curtains etc and then they broke the window and we reported it to the police and still they havent been out....

I called them again and they said they would be out between 2 & 4 and surprise surprise its 4.18 and still no sign of them

numerous police cars and vans have been in the area but none have come to sort it out.

so im sat here wiht a broken window waiting.....

You'll find the Police pretty useless no matter where you are. they have set targets they have to meet (lower crime rate) so they get pretty lazy and try to brush it off as a minor offence.

I've never heard of the police doing that, it's always down to the owner or insurance company.

I guess the problem is that with this type of incident it will always be over by the time they get there, so it's going to get treated as a lower priority to an ongoing incident. If you can identify them then they'll catch them anyway, if you can't then there isn't much hope whenever they arrive (unless they can catch them leaving the scene), but that don't make you feel any better when you are sat there waiting on them.

The police often arrange boarding up on commercial premises. I would have thought that they  could have put you in touch with an emergency boarding up service.

+1 on them being pretty useless. My friend got picked up for walking home at 9 at night and checked for alcohol intake (he had had none whatsoever.)
He was kept in a cell for 2 hours before his dad came to pick him up.
In the time it took them to do this they could have caught the people who broke your window....

I say stop doing all the statics cr@p and copy what other countries with lower crime rates do, we need to scr@p all the paper work for a start

I work in the law enforcement business and I have to say that the targets that are set are those demanded by the public. That's the case where I work anyway - Glasgow.

Public disorder (youths/chavs/neds running amok etc) is at the top of our priorities and is being addressed very well indeed up here.

I don't know what priorities West Yorkshire Police have, or who sets them but my advice is simple.

If you're not happy with the service you received, write a letter of complaint to the Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police. Phone calls don't cut it. Put it in writing and it should be acted upon. If your neighbours aren't happy either get them to complain as well until the message gets through.

The police are directed by the public and are answerable to them, or at least it is where I live now. It didn't used to be that way but it is now and it works far, far better IMHO.

well they said the council will be out on monday to replace the entire window.

and the guy in the flat above has cctv and has given it to the police so that should help.

when they came today they said they were very sorry for the delay but they had over 40 incidents involving the same group in the local area including violence burglary and a stabbing ...... trust me to live where the whole shannon matthews thing is.

However they gave us the number for our local councillor and he says he can get us moved to a better area early next week as we have been the victim of a lot of trouble over the past 4 months or so.

However we are looking at a private rented place near my dads tomorrow anyway so hopefully everything shall be good.

Both statistics and the whole deal with every crime works. It's just that they just keep to statistics because (ironically) it's less paperwork.

Funny how the easiest of things come down to human error.

I hate scum like that. They always hang out in groups too which makes it worse. Me and a friend got stuck in a 30 vs 2 fight about a month or two ago, so unfair.

yep well they called up today asking if i was satisfied with the service i received so i complained a hell of alot. doubt itll make much difference though,.
