Passed my first year of uni! Got over 60% in all modules (85% in one!) except for one where I got 59% so I guess thatd all round up to equivalent of a 2:1 ish for the first year?

Yep. A good 2.1 is between 60-70%. Keep it up! first year is a doddle usually...

I failed nearly all my first year exams - got a bit complacent because I'd never had to work all that hard in school, I suppose.  I was doing maths but only passed politics, which was just a sort of "extra" first-year subject for one lesson a week.

Somehow managed to pass the retakes (which I can't remember at all, I've blanked out the memory of that summer!  :?   ).  But because I'd failed, they slightly restricted my choice of courses in the second year, which meant I couldn't get a First.

Learned my lesson and worked hard after that, got a 2:1 in the end.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I know quite a few people who flunked the first year too, just couldn't make the transition to higher education. But for me i found 2nd year the hardest. Workload increased massively and felt constantly swamped. 3rd was the same but felt easier that i survived 2nd and final year was over before i realised.

I think I failed my STEP papers. Revising pure maths harder than the stuff I did at college after 2 year blank whilst working 8-6 every day didn't really work :( Gotta apply for uni again in september now probably. Either way no matter what happens can't go til 2009... Damn.

i don't think that'd happen now. You could fail exams till the cows come home, and as long as you pass them in the end, you could get a first. I know when my dad was at university, only a small proportion (certainly less than 50%) were even able to get onto the honours course. When i was there (different course, though, but i expect it's the same regardless), I wasn't even aware that it was possible to not do an honours degree.

But remember: exams are NOT getting easier. Such a point may not be brought up under pain of death.

Indeed.  Previous generations (mine included) were just thick, lazy b@stards.

But nowadays kids get more intelligent, hardworking and downright brilliant every year.  FACT.  The government says so.  Innit.

You can even do a degree studying a certain footballer! That must mean no one knew much about the game back then.  :?

Yeah I thought I was going to be cr@p at it, I really hated 6th form and only ended up doing 2 subjects for A-Level  Uni is way better though now I'm doing a course I actually enjoy. Apparently on our course 1st year is fairly relaxed then they pile on the work in the 2nd year, so I have that to look forward to now!

Johnny, apparently Tesco are doing a shelf stacking/retail management degree :? I'm doing shelfstacking there now and I dont think I (or any of the people there) would need a degree to do it!

 For gods sake thats taking the piss! Well i'm sure it keeps some people employed in Gordon's unemployment manipulation figures.

I can't see many who went to uni studying cr@p like this doing very well in the general knowledge rounds of university challenge!

No, I think McDonalds are just a place that has an agreement with AQA/Edexcel whatever to provide apprenticeship places for BSCs in Burger-flipping.

For my course, if you failed a module you had one chance to retake it and if you failed that, you were out on your arse.  There were a stack of people that started my course and I'd say that less then 50% passed it.

(It was an honoours degreed too, shh don't tell Dave   )

Actually what does make an honours degree, I thought that it was being recognised by a professional institution, but think that may be wrong now.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

yeah, but isn't that technically the same thing?  I realise they aren't making up exams in further maths, for example... :)
