all the 8s - my 8th V from 1988
« on: May 16, 2008, 08:01:32 PM »
its a Gibson Flying V90 from 1988. very bright and hard to photograph 'nuclear yellow' finish, 25.5" scale length. single bill lawrence designed humbucker, volume control, (unnecessary) steinberger leg rest, fixed bridge. i quite liked the sound, might leave it stock.

how could this be more 80s? the answer is NONE - none more 80s.

now I just have to work out how to get it home.

Nice! :)  Love the Trini Lopez inlays on that.  Actually, I think it could be more 80s by the addition of a Kahler (IIRC there were som 80s Gibsons that had them....) - but not by much :)
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

lol ;) some versions of this guitar had a steinberger trem. however, i am extremely happy with the fixed bridge.

tried it through a marshall vintage modern - great amp. also forgot to mention the rear of the body is contoured, and the jack is in the upper wing.

Ahhhh
I have wanted one of those since 1989 when i first saw one at Frankfurt Musikmesse
It is the same as the one that Bruce Kulick used in KISS' Unholy video
See here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MiJfZcQCTY
I love the trini lopez inlay - superb!
And it has the jack socket on the upper fin - same as I now do mine

Well done to you!

Thanks Feline, I knew you'd appriciate it :) I'm strumming it right now in my New York hotel room. The guitar itself is quite light - but the case weighs a ton.

regarding that video - thats exactly what this V sounded like through the Vintage Modern (except the solo in the vid sounds like it has some whammy bar action)

I dig it. On the picture it looks more rain-coat yellow than 80s nuclear yellow. I'd love to see it in some natural light.

Nice inlays. Wish I could see it in person, a photograph doesn't do justice for any 80s type guitar, imo.

My birthyear. With a little luck, my next guitar will be an 88'er.  8)

Now that's a V!!
I saw an LP Junior recently that was similar in style to that, bright yellow and a Steinberger trem. Very cool.
I see a rainbow rising
Look there on the horizon
And I'm coming home

see, i was born in 80...but lots of my early memories are 88 - its almost llike it all started making sense in 88...  i know it was the year of the seul olympics, a trip for my family to florida (and obviously disney world)... and the first time i had some really good lego,   A lego technics set with a snowmobile and helicopter.... the year just seems to keep popping up for some reason and if i believed in some kind of astrological numeracy i might think it was significant :?
