aw i thought this was a thread about 8 string Vees  :(

I'm with oppo, I'm sorely disappointed by the lack of those all-important two extra strings.

Now that's a V!!
I saw an LP Junior recently that was similar in style to that, bright yellow and a Steinberger trem. Very cool.

i've got one of those!! big chunky neck, thin contoured body and a weird mini humbucker pickup.  and yes, it's an '88, gibson seemed to have a thing about nuclear yellow that year!
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!

You know, it only jsut occured to me how hard it would be for me not to paint black stipes on that guitar if I got it. By all means, keep yellow Vs away from me. This is why:

i like a lot... and for some reason 88 is one of those years that sticks out in my head quite often which has to be good

My birthyear. With a little luck, my next guitar will be an 88'er.  8)

I used to have one of these Charvel 88Ltd - was nice

I love those Vs, they're one of the nicer "modern" V designs.

The Trini Lopez inlays look particularly great.  I really like the SG 90 which was around at the same time:

i'm planning to pop round to phil's later and i can hardly wait to try it out through his rig. i wonder how the bill lawrence will compare out of isolation.

heres a better picture of the nuclear yellow:

i'm just a bit worried about all the potential problems of bringing her back, but i'll just have to see how it goes tomorrow.

feline: i've seen you 'evaluating' my guitars before ;) its been a while since i visited, i'll take half a day and pop over soon

the EQing of the bill lawrence was absolutely spot-on but it completely lacks any life and dynamics compared to BKPs. i'm considering my options pickup wise.

gwEm's V is really nice, I like the feel of it and the neck is a great shape.  Wasn't as keen on the Bill Lawrence, though for an 80's tone it works.  It was just that comparing it to BK's, there wasn't any life in the sound.  We tried it though a couple of amp and cabinet combinations, and everytime the BK's sounded better (is anyone surprised  :) ).

Hi gwEm, how did you go on with getting the guitar back into England?

It worked out ok thanks Phil 8) I threw out alot of my luggage and was only 2kg over the limit - they waved me through without fees. No damage to the guitar, but I haven't tried it on my rig yet.

Was thinking on the way home that we tried your Rebel Yell PRS with the JJ tubes, and also the PRS has a tone control which the V90 doesn't. So I reckon with these factors I'll go for a Rebel Yell in it, and if that doesn't work an A5 Mule.

The Steinberger pickguards are very nice quality, but a bit the wrong size, I'm tweaking the single humbucker one with needle files at the moment.

a little postscript for those interested:

i took out the pickup to make some measurements on it... in the cavity its signed by two or three (hard to make out) people - the workers who made it? quality control? who knows, but it was nice to see the human touch.

i took off the scratch plate also, and the neck carries on a surprisingly long way into the body - it extends below where a neck pickup would be. as expected, its made of (softish) mahogany.

plan for mods is a new scratchplate (cut out below the TOM to get the action a bit lower, and a hole for a toggle switch), rebel yell and straplocks.

For coil splitting, or are you adding a neck pickup?
