many people say the same about the tone i like - not enough bass. i like it that way (very bass starved) i must say, for the reasons hunter says - sounds better in the mix. you can take the bass out afterwards, but you can only do it so much post-prod, before it starts to sound a bit fake.
but i think though johnny is right about the mids. in fact this is why i changed to a holy diver in that guitar - to get some more lower mids. the rebel yell was a bit bright even for me in the V90. though you could get the early schenker tone very well.
hunter also raises some points about the mic position. in the case of this clip, its mounted a couple of centimeters off center - and pointing 90 degrees to the grill cloth. the mic sits directly on the grill. this was the 'old' gwem way. at the time i felt it gave a good approximation to the room sound.
but i saw posts on this forum by hamfist, who suggested 45 degree or so grill cloth angle. i used this in my slowhand clip, and i liked the results when exactly center micing - it seemed more accurate to me. if someone is adventureous, i wouldn't mind some comments on that ;) ;)
