Lukather is a crackin player (love his stuff on Talk To Ya Later by The Tubes), but can't really stand Toto - Rosana?, come on.

the two sublime solos in rosanna more than make up for the inherent cr@pness of the rest of the song.

Does that include the Cheez-O-Rama synth solo?

I'm not the biggest Toto fan I have to say, I saw them live and nearly fell asleep.  But great musicians, and even though the songs are often unbelievably schmaltzy, they've got something - I really like "Rosanna", for all its faults.

Did they sing 'Africa'?

If so it has a funny lyric in it.

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right
Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing that I've become

When it comes to stupid lyrics nothing beats "Land down under" by Men at Work.

"Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich"
Laney, Charvel and BKP

Africa is a great song.

The vocal harmonies are really cool.

It's of its time though - look at Bostons Third Stage.  Ultra cheesey, but still cool.  And despite the HUMUNGOUS guitar playing, Yngwie and Whitesnake were also pretty cheesey during the 1980's...

+1

But when were Yngwie and Whitesnake ever not cheesy???  Not that I'm suggesting David Coverdale actually smells of cheese, he's far too Shakespearean for that.  He probably smells like Sir Walter Raleigh after a night at a high-class bawdy house.
