I just dont think it fitted the backing track at all, that kinda thing benefits from the less is more approach imo. cr@p tone as well. He's still a better guitarist than I ever will be but I like to criticise :P

Watch out lads, Tom's getting c--ky!

I know what you mean though, it's a generic, "obvious" sort of solo BUT it is a kind of playing I like.  And the bit where he plays really fast - I can't decide whether it's (a) tasteless showing off or (b) still showing off, but only for a few seconds so it's actually rather tasteful and cool.  :?

I really like Lukather, not only his playing which is amazing  but he seems really funny and down to earth. I'd love to go out for a drink with him and I'm sure he's got loads of stories to tell. Here's an interesting clip of him playing with Satch http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=RQvHno4ZudY&feature=related,  he looks a bit worse for wear on this performance 8)

That's a great song :) I always like the G3-style jams even though a lot of them have mindless shreddage, its still good to watch!

Is it just me or is he morphing in to Bobby Ball as he gets older?

Satch plays him under the table on that clip, Lukather's very first solo is just a joke, completely lacking in any taste (it's like he's not even listening to what the rest of the band are doing).

Finally got round to watching that... god it goes on a bit doesn't it?  (and I'm someone who - just about - has the patience to listen to Mountain's 30-minute version of Nantucket Sleighride   )

Agreed, Satch's playing is way more tasteful and appropriate - strange when he's known as the shred guy and Lukather's the play-for-the-song session man.  Guess he was in the mood to show off that night.

By the way, I see the Bobby Ball thing... but there's a hint of Ron Jeremy too isn't there?

satch is excellent too, he's definitely up there among my favourites. I guess you could make the argument that lukather is playing in satch's back yard- satch is the master (or one of, at least) of those g3-type concerts with jams etc., while presumably luke isn't as used to it.

Could be wrong though... i'd be happy to be able to play as well as either of them to be honest...
