Does anyone here own an epiphone Les Paul Standard/Custom/Ultra/anything like that. I know this probably sounds odd, but I've never played one, and i was curious as to how good they sound up against the gibson. I'd be quite intrigued also to put some BareKnuckles in one, and I bet it'd sound as good or better than it's counterpart! Also, is the build quality consistently good on them? and what factors are different to the gibson in terms of the build? thanks

I'm just getting the cash together to pimp up an Epi with Crawlers and a Richwood LP with Cold Sweats. Shouldn't be too long now.

A few of the lads here have upgraded or pimped up Epis and they say there brilliant.

I have an Epi LP Custom, with Bareknuckle Mules in it. Sounds great now, made me realise how cr@p the stock pickups are! I might get a fret dress etc sometime just to get it playing really nice, I havent had any pro setuppy type things done to it before, its 2-3 years old now I think..

To anyone who was wondering, I have sorted the muddiness/no defenition thing out that I thought I had in the neck Mule, well it wasnt the Mule actually it was my overdrive pedal. Now I just run my TS7 (looking to upgrade this if anyone has anything to offer me ?

) into the Fender HRDx, still after a hotplate though :lol:

The Aria overdrive pedal doesnt sound too good through a valve amp, it gets too muddy, its good through solid state. It still needs a good home though :D

Epi LP pickups? I've got a box full of old Epi pickups from Epi LPs that I've done upgrades on. Changing the pickups is an absolute must!!!

yes i have heard that. it seems like they are the only real thing letting it down. if you put burstbuckers in an epi lp and tested it side-by side with a gibson lp standard, what difference would you hear (do you think?) i'm just trying to guage whether there is a noticeable difference, or do people just pay the extra like £500 because it says gibson on the headstock. to be honest, i prefer the look of the epiphones, not to mention the price, i'd like one for live work, that wasn't pretty, but had character that was enhanced with dings and scr@pes.

There will always be a difference. No two guitars sound exactly the same. If you close your eyes and just listen, I don't think you could tell wich guitar is the Gibbo and wich is the Epi.

Here is a comment from a customer of mine who fitted BK Mules to his Epi LP -

"The Bareknuckles arrived safe and sound on Saturday morning, I fitted them on Sunday afternoon and this evening had a chance to fire them up with an Orange 120 amp.

The sound is simply amazing and they do exactly what I wanted, the neck pick up feels a little pokier than the bridge and it stays nice and toppy when playing chords.

I wont bother trying to dream up any superlatives that you may not have heard about them!! Suffice to say I am a very happy man, I have a guitar that easily compares to a full on Gibbo for a fraction of the price"
