London Guitar Show
« on: June 14, 2008, 08:17:20 PM »
Just got back from the guitar show. It was amazing. It was the first show ive been too.

The best bit for me with the gigrig pedal board stand. They had 5 amps there

1959 AC30
1962 VOX
TWO ROCK
65 AMP
Matchless Chieftan

They tested them all in their demo with lots of boutique pedals. Their entire walls were covered in boutique pedals and vintage pedals on loan from all the main guitar shops around the country to sell on their behalf.

Those amps ruled. He had them turned up quite loud and he was flicking between them on the gigrig. At one point he had all 5 going at the same time. It was heaven.

Best momemt was the 1959 AC30 with a booster Brian May style. It was the nicest sound ive heard. I wonder how much that would be worth? The Vox's were original.  :)

For you pedal addicts this stand really is like a candy shop. Lots of original Hendrix style effects. Fuzzfaces' etc.

The second thing i loved was the Marshall sound proof booth. I say booth it fitted about 100 people in it. The guys playing were ace. They were playing all the Marshall user's main hits, Hendrix, ACDC, GNR, etc...

They were testing 3 amps the JVM, Randy Roads and a JCM 800 ( i think a signature model).

My favourite guitar was on the TC Electronics stand. They were using guitars made by someone called Hanson.

They are strat and tele copies, but imo better then the fender customs. They were all relic guitars and the black tele i played was the nicest guitar ive played. Will have to save up. They are made in Denmark but as yet dont sell them in the UK. The tele was around £1800+ if you wanted to import one.

The Tiny terror combo was great. Mainly due to Chappers playing it. He's a nice guy and gave me some playing tips.

The Blackstar amps and the Cornford amps were also great and they really show how a great amp can sound even at low volumes i.e bedroom volumes. Better then alot of the cheaper low watt amps ive played.

The PRS booth was also amazing. The best ones were all sold by 10:30, 30 mins after opening.

For all of you that like the PRS Miras, they had the first ones with PRS colours on, i.e. the fancy bursts etc. They will be released during the year with the price yet to be decided.

Im sorry i forgot a camera. I will bring one next time.

P.s i thought you couldnt sell there? I bought stuff.

Glad you had fun
I went on the trade day (Thursday) and it was really quiet
I will be back tomorrow to see what it is like with lots of people there

Warning to others - the DLR railway is out of action tomorrow and hopefully there will be replacement buses

The PRS's selling must be the "down your street" thing where you can order the guitar via the distributor and the sale will be directed via your nearest PRS dealer.........

What was the reaction to not being able to buy stuff at the show like from others who were there?

No - the stupid sods have picked a date that clashes with Download and Isle of Wight Festivals, which robs the event of many punters.

The selling hall is a separate hall to the main one and doesn't appeal to me
The main reason for saying no other than the festival clash is just too busy to make new stock to show off and I dont want to take old stuff.

To do the show properly costs me personally about £5-10K not including the cost of making the new guitars
Add to that the nervous breakdown that I have trying to get ready for the show and the difficulty it takes in prioritising show builds over regular custom stuff and it doesn't make sense at present.

I would love to see a one or two day show that was guitar centred - like a custom built show.
Everybody knows what a strat or tele or Les Paul looks like , so I dont think that Fender and Gibson are the reasons to go to a guitar show (I could be wrong) but rather the smaller builders whose work you would never get to see otherwise

Just my own thoughts
