ok, I used it a few years ago, and I don't recall this e cheque cr@p being the default back then...
simply, its pissing me off, I don't want to wait 2 weeks for this great electronic money transferral, when I can do it in a week if I post a cheque.

I have looked around and the only way it seems to get instant transfers is to not have money in your primary account, and therefore the backup account gives instant transfer? I only have one bank account, and the credit rating thing I went through before means I probably won't be able to get another.

Help and suggestions please!

Or give me an email address or phone number to harass them - their site does not display one  :?

Same happened to me and annoyed the cr@p out of me. I asked them about it and it turns out my card that I registered on paypal was expired. You'd think they'd let you know wouldn't you? Anyways check your expiry date first before you write/phone them.

My card is 3 weeks old :P
expires in 3 years.

Its all so automated, I want to get into contact with a real person with the company.

And shout at them...

eCheque shouldn't be the default payment method, there's something wrong.  I'm sure you have already, but did you check "Profile" in PayPal to see what bank accounts and credit cards you have registered?

The default for payments is any funds you have in your PayPal account, then if that's empty it should be taken from your personal bank account - by instant transfer.  I don't know if it checks whether there are funds in that bank account - it goes through very quickly, so I doubt it.

I only get eCheque or credit card as options if I actually select "other payment options" when I'm making a payment.

Well, strangely enough, if I go to that screen my backup funding source is 'not specified'.  But it always goes to my bank account.

Now I really am confused.  :?

I only ever get eCheque as an option these days... I think I'm going to close my account, since I don't use eBay these days...

It's now the default, even if you have had Paypal for a while. Can be changed, in a sneaky little step just before you send money.

Guess paypal just like having that extra money in their account gathering interest for them for a week...

Well, as I've said, it's not the default for me.  :?

The maximum charge for receiving an eCheque is only £3.50, not the usual percentage basis, so the fees they lose there would far outweigh a week's interest.  It makes no sense.

Well I have just paid for (another) MXR EQ instantly. I didn't go through paypal, just asked seller for a bill, clicked pay through PP, and it went straight through :?
Whether thats because of the route I took, or the change I made

I had an eCheque problem, they said my card had expired when it was only a few weeks old.

You HAVE to check back on Paypal and make sure you go through ALL the necessary bits. Even when it asks you for some verification thingy. Make sure you do it. Then the whole eCheque problem disappeared.

Thank God.

The general UK Paypal customer servie phone line is 08707 307 191. I've always found them easy to get hold of and very helpful on the phone. I always phone them if I have any sort of issue.
