yeah, I've seen them there too.

I have locking Grovers on my LP Studio, I like the easy string changes.

Just as a follow-up to this, I was restringing the LP again last night (been messing around a lot in anticipation of BKPing and other tweaks :)) and observed that the tuning key on the G-string machine head actually wobbles when there's no string tension holding it firm.  That can't be good!

I think that one, at least, needs replacing -- easiest to do them all at once!

PS - the strings I loaded were my last set of Zakk Boomers, but I think that .60 low string is still bit over-the-top.  Probably'll take it back a notch to the GHS TNT .10-.52s.

I had that problem once. The casing broke. After that, the gears will eat eachother.

:D Yep sounds like you finally nailed the problem !!

as for the GHS Boomers i can whole heartedly agree the 10-52`s [ Thick`n`Thins ] are great. Check out Strings Direct. I get 10 sets for £37 not including P & P

I've never liked the tuners fitted to Les Pauls - they always looked cheap and nasty. I'm a product of the eighties, so wouldn't think anything of gutting a Les Paul with the exception of Floyd Roses/Kahlers!
