Hi All,

I know single stomp boxes sound better than effects processors due to the sound having to go though all the electronics in a processor, but was wondering what processor does the best @ emulating the original sounds.  I would really love to get an all in one processor that could sound comparable to pedal boards.  
I was going to get the Line 6 live, but did not like it when tested.  The distortions were too fake to me.

I did a search and saw the Boss GT-Pro.  Has anyone tried this processor or have any other worth looking into.  thanks!

The BOSS is interesting, but I've never got a good sound out of mine.

What sounds are you trying to emulate specifically?

For my shops website i have just finished a POD XT Live demo and will be doing a Boss GT-8 demo very soon.I personally prefered the POD Live it just sounded more natural,and with a little tweaking sounded very good.The Boss was ok but all the patches sounded very similiar.IMHO.

Im not really trying to emulate a certian sound.  Just want something to fiddle around with when im bored.  
Something that sounds closest to the real thing as possible, so that if i want i could bring it to a jam session or gig and it wont hurt peoples ears.  Something that has so many different combos I could play with it forever and find something new and interesting.  I might be asking too much..haha

I really should not say the Line 6 live was bad becasue when i tried it out in the store it was with a cheap guitar and cheap solid state amp.   Maybe with the right guitar/amp and some tweeking it could sound great.  The store was crowded that day...i did not have the pick of the liter...lol

I have a Vox Tonelab and now that I've changed the valve to a high gain JJ ECC83S it sounds absolutely incredible. Some amazing tones. Great cleans, awesome crunch tones and soaring lead tones. It can do metal now too. I find it way better than the Pod XT I had before. There is a stage version which is exactly the same, but with a floorboard and a few more effects. It doesn't have half as many effects as the Boss or Line 6 but in terms of amp sounds it rules the roost IMO. It's the valve :D. I seriously reccomend giving it a try.

wow i totally forgot about this one.  i saw the SE in the store and wanted to try it but i guess i forgot about it.

so the  JJ ECC83S is what youve found to be the best tube to work with this unit?  i got to try it... the SE just looks so cool .. i will buy the  JJ ECC83S too as you mentioned....thanks!

The valve that came with it was an Electro-Harmonix ECC83. Not a bad valve (apparently) but after swapping it with a high gain JJ ECC83S there is a definite improvement. You could probably swap it with a standard JJ ECC83S and there would be a big improvement, I just opted for the high gain one because I didn't feel there was enough gain to play metal. All depends on what styles you play. I got mine from Eurotubes. If you end up buying the Tonelab, I'd shoot Bob at Eurotubes an email explaining what styles you play and he'll give you a reccomendation. He's a good guy to do business with. After I'd sent a short email to him explaining what sounds I wanted, I got a long in-depth email back explaining what all these different valves would all do to the tone.

I remember playing the Valvetronix when they first came out, and thinking they've nearly got this modelling perfect. Much better than the Line 6 amps that I'd had before, but I still like glowing valves!

Thanks All,

I will be using it in front of my hotrod deluxe.  HC has a lot of people who give it a good rating with a HRDx.  I will definitely get the tubes from Eurotubes.  I need to get a set for the HRDx anyway so it works out good.

It would be great if it could make my MG250DFX more payable.  

With the (1) tube from the pedal wouldn't the MG250DFX sound like a AVT series?

It would sound awful through your MG250FX I would guess. I had a Marshall AVT50 and it sounded like cr@p through that. It should sound awesome through your HRD though, as the valves will warm up the tone even further. Tonelabs into Marshalls just don't go :D. Why not look at a Valvetronix amp? You can adjust the wattage to as low as 1 watt so that the valve is being driven but you have great tone at bedroom levels if needed.
